S03E03 is the official suicide of this TV show

I loved seasons 1 and 2 of You're the worst. They are fun, cool, diverting and quite intelligent. One of the few shows I enjoy watching. In season 3 everything seems to be falling apart: the characters are much vulgarer in a not cute way, but in a "come on, you need to laugh at this, stupid spectator" way. The 2 lead roles also paradoxally have some awfully romantic and molded comic cinema behaviors and conversations that just break the show down to the ground. It was fun because it had a great equilibrium between childeesh vulgarity and unspoken romantics. Now we only watch how the actors don't believe in their characters (who became unlikable human beings, carricatures of what they were in the 2 seasons before) any more, you feel their disapointment from the script. I feel bad for them.

Why? Why? Whyyyyyyyyyy couldn't you, stupid producers, just hold on the original writers of the show! Stupid!

s03e03 was written by Eva Anderson, who also wrote s01e08, s02e05, and co-wrote s02e11.
Stephen Falk has been showrunner the whole time.

Still think so after S03E05? If so, I'd say quit. I know I'll stay.

I'm about this far into it, and so far feeling very disappointed too. It feels very forced, and having Lindsay actually stab her husband, and then abuse him even more, was a bridge too far for me. She should be in prison.

Because I love the cast, and I'm hopeful that someone more creative than I am (which is probably almost everyone in the world, and certainly includes television writers) can still turn this around, I'll continue with the season. But my hopes and expectations are way, way down low at this point in it.

"But... what about the relevant conundrum?"

looks like you are wrong. it was renewed for a 4th season. The show writers are letting the characters grow.... and the title of the show is youre the worst. So unlike other shows where we may see bad rotten characters in the beginning start to show personal growth into better human beings.... our set of fools here get WORSE.

seems logical to me. It would be boring if they all stayed the same e episode.

Im really enjoying season 3 of course there's things that arent so funny for everybody but this show has some amazing scenes season 3 is really good, its funnier than season 2.

I got halfway through episode 8, and I'm officially done. It's just not funny anymore. I miss when Gretchen at least pretended to have a career. I hate the way she treats her therapist. They don't seem snarky or self-indulgent anymore, the whole cast of characters just seems mean. There's also no chemistry between the actors anymore, and I often forget that two of them are supposed to be dating. What a mess.

I'm another one who bailed after Episode 8. Not that it was really bad, but it's just a culmination of what I had seen so far. The really bad episode I thought was the Sunday Funday one. If it had been just 10 episodes instead of 13, I would have hung in there until the end. But as other people have said, not just on this board, but on others, there are now so many options of things to watch on TV (not to mention Amazon and Netflix), that there's no longer the need to hang in there if you really dislike the show. Actually, I've read that that also prevents certain shows from finding an audience if the first few shows aren't very good, but I digress.

This season sucks. I think Jimmy is not crazy and Gretchen is very depressed now. I miss S1 and 2

Apparently the writers are the same, yes. After that terrible episode where Lindsey is making "a dance" on Killian's chest, there were some episodes where the show finds back its rythm. I agree on the Lindsey line of stabbing and abusing Paul - it gets just creepy and not fun anymore. Apparently the season will concentrate on the second roles, I liked the one about Edgar and I just hated the last one on Paul and Vernon.

Also the way Gretchen treats her therapist is a little bit too much. I like the idea of the characters getting worse with the evolution of the show, the problem is the apparent helplesness of the writers who now write the show "to be liked" and shocking without building the logic of the shocking stuff. That is the feeling I'm left with after watching.

I enjoyed personally the second season the most. Talking about depression is something new and the way it was done was certainly great.
