Gretchen degrading and the cartoon that is Lindsay = dead show

I don't quite understand why writers who are obviously capable of some moments of pure brilliance both in comedy and drama, have turned two of the main characters into the most repulsive human beings imaginable. I know the show is called You're the Worst, because it's about immature people with questionable morals, but this has officially become ridiculous. There's literally zero subtlety in any storyline Lindsay takes part in. She's in-your-face disgusting and barely resembles an actual horrible person which is the worst part, because I have no problem watching a realistic portrait of an actual horrible person. Gretchen was a good character in Season 1, then she basically becomes another Lindsay. Again, why? What's the point to all of that? One minute you have Jimm (or Edgar) having an existential experience, the next you have an idiotic, completely unrealistic dialogue between Gretchen and Lindsay where the only thing that's missing is an actual sign "look, viewer, they're awful people, like the worst, get it?".

It's almost unwatchable at this point. What a shame, it really had the potential to be a good heir to Californication.
