Pilot Was Actually Pretty Good
I rewatched the pilot again to be sure. The pilot was way better than some of you are hating on it.
The good:
- I think it has a nice setup, introduced you to the people in the family and his workplace. Definitely has potential with the offbeat son, the teenage daughter, the therapist mother, the hospital administrator, nurse, and other doctor.
- The cast is really good. That Indian American young doctor is really hot and funny (!!). Dave Foley (from News Radio) is perfect as hospital administrator. Ken is a hilarious comedian and the rest of the cast is pretty solid.
Could be improved:
- I don't mind the laugh track but I think they place the audio laughs in the wrong places sometimes. Whoever overlays the laugh track can do a better job timing it with the actual lines on the show
- The writing could be tweaked just a little bit. I suggest making Ken more of the calm, nonchalant straight man (think Seinfeld or Cosby) where the other characters are the eccentric ones.
- There were a few minor lines that didn't work but it's not a big deal - the Molly joke went a little too long, the wife comment about nutjobs, I thought the mime thing with the son went a bit too long, the ending I know was meant to be heartwarming but was a bit odd that he got on stage.
