How much America has changed after those days?

So how much America has change after those days? Thank god you have now Fox news that gives you right information and no lies. Tea party, Palin, Trump...wau. Facts (Fox news), democracy are so highly overrated, myth/beliefs are so much more fun.

reply

Yes. The contemporary parallels are fairly vivid I should say.

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

Vigilance is the key item suggested by this thread. What dangers do we face today that are similar to the previous dangers of the laughably-named Un-American Activities Commission? Let's list some items that are a threat to free expression and freedom to work peacefully.

reply

I agree - I found it scary to see the parallels between this and nowadays, and people don't even seem to realise that!

reply

It's the divide and conquer tactic. Seperate the masses up over some non-excisting threat so they fight amongst each other while the elite gets wealthier and wealthier by screwing over said masses. It's been going on forever and it has always been a minority who actually notices what's going on.

Up untill this year, if you see the rise of a presidential candidate like Sanders, that minority can now be cautiously optimistic.

reply

How much has Amwerica changed? Just look at Hollywood. It's full of leftists, socialists, and communists, and they all parade their demented ideology all over television and the silver screen. And I hate to say it, but with the upfront (and praised) political views of the admitted communist Bernie Sanders, we now have an official socialist party alive and well in this country. How far (or how backwards) we've come since the 50s. Very sad.

reply

You're hilarious.

reply

Bernie Sanders is an admitted Democratic Socialist, not a Communist.

Your complaint about Hollywood being filled with, I assume, people that you don't care to be associated with, sort of flies in the face of you posting stuff on a message board that is basically all about Hollywood and all those "commies" out there.

You need some brushing up on the First Amendment to the Constitution; nowhere in there does it state "except whatever you don't like."

reply

Its amazing how many stupid people in America have no clue to the difference between communism and socialism. But then again, most Americans couldn't pass a civics test if their life depended on it.

reply

Slightly serious question, do public high schools even teach civics anymore? Also, when I took civics (we called it social studies) it was all about how the U.S government functions (or how it is supposed to function). The branches of government and what their powers are, checks and balances, and that type of thing. We didn't discuss foreign governments or other systems of government.

reply

They are always trying o cut back on what they consider unnecessary subjects, but the schools that still do have civics classes have made them elective courses. They should make them mandatory before you can vote.

reply

Well, the film industry's politics have certainly changed. Informal blacklisting of conservatives and Republicans today is routine and accepted as normal business. Tolerance is only one-way for the vast majority of the industry's power-players -- leftward. The movie Trumbo was excellent at exposing the folly of limits on freedom of speech; too bad much of Hollywood has conveniently blinded itself to what is happening.

reply

Where do you get that crap? There is no blacklisting of conservatives in LA. There are all sorts of republicans in Hollywood. Gary Sinise is on his second show, Patricia Heaton ditto. Bruce Willis is doing fine with his career.
Are they outnumbered by liberals, sure. Conservatives are always attacking the left for making films and tv shows that don't fit their fascist narrow minded idea of what they should be representing. Creating art is not about playing it safe to appease the bigots, sexists and homophobes. Film making is an art. It is also a business and conservative fiscal policies are bad for business if you're interested in selling movie tickets or commercials. Only an idiot in that business (and most others) would support Republicans.

Crap?! I’ve lived in LA for 35 years and have seen the leftward change first-hand. I’m a libertarian and supporter of gay marriage, legalized pot, abortion rights, and legal pathways for citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Your stereotypic kneejerk reaction is all too common among today’s “progressives”. You can’t acknowledge your own biases because your dogma is always correct. Nonsense.

Getting ahead in the film business is very dependent upon networking, and for today’s actors/actresses and screenwriters opportunities for networking is very restricted, politically, to leftist gatherings. If you want to succeed you must get on board and make it very visible you are on board with your future bosses and those with influence.

See many movies lately with Sinise in a significant role?

reply

Another Libertarian douche that's more worried about his own selfish right to smoke pot than worry about anything substantial. Sinise is a mediocre actor at best. His monotone acting would put an insomniac to sleep. If he keeps getting roles it isn't because of his talent. There have been plenty of conservative actors that get plenty of work.

reply

You take a page from Trump with your offensive and ignorant reply. Congratulations.

Wow! I'm flattered you were able to remove your head from your rectum long enough to read my post.

reply

More insults and abusive language. Disappointing. Goodbye hytecker.

There appear to be a number of heavy-hitting right-wing, conservatives in Hollywood: Clint Eastwood, Vince Vaughn, Adam Sandler, Jerry Bruckheimer, Robert Downey Jr., Gary Sinise, Bruce Willis, and of course, Arnold, to name a few. While Hollywood is widely-thought to be left-wing, there are conservatives, libertarians present; I think the right-wing is silent about its political affiliations....

reply

Not really all that much, the country is still largely polarized and there are many folks who persecute others based on superficial reasons. It's not quite as "United" as it is "States", but thankfully there's no major witch hunts going on at the moment so it certainly has progressed in that sense! Maybe if Donald Trump gets into office that will change for the worse though, it's hard to tell just how much hot air the guy is full of.

reply

Hollywood still enforces political tests as a precondition of employment.
