So what is this film about?

How does it compare to his previous ones? Better, worse or the same?

I could only find this:

Ozon's "The New Girlfriend” is about Claire, a young woman who falls into a deep depression after the death of her best friend Leah. She eventually finds the strength to embrace life after discovering an unexpected secret about her late friend’s husband. It's based on a Ruth Rendell short story called "The New Girlfriend" published in 1985.

It'll premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2014.

It's about some guy who likes to dress up in women's clothes.

It wasn't my choice to see this at the cinemas. But there was nothing else when we showed up. Claire's husband seemed quite nice. And the deceased wife's name was Laura; same as me. (Pretty name).

How does it compare to which previous ones? It's not the worst thing he's ever done, but it's far from the best too. Very middle of the road.

I thought this was absolutely awful tbh. Ozon made no effort to create convincing characters with believable motivations or any kind of internal dialogue, they were all just cyphers for the story. I didn't believe anything about this film at all. In terms of comparisons to previous films, I've only seen In the House which I thought was good, but not great, this was much much much worse for me.

I am curious to know what you find unbelievable about this film. Is it the plot itself or the character development and writing? I personally know a woman who went through this with a transgender woman, but without the drama of a late spouse and a near-death experience, so a part of it for me was convincing. But I'd love to read your insight!

The fact you say there were no convincing characters, motivations or internal dialogue means you must have been fast asleep during the film. Or perhaps it was because it wasn't spelled out in black and white.

I think that Claire was encountering a situation that made her uncomfortable, and when she could deal with that, the queasiness factor escalated. Did Ozon mean to suggest necrophilia?

Late response, but I watched the BD just a few weeks ago.
I interpret it as mostly a fantastic film of black magic, involving possession of a man by the spirit of a dead woman. This ghoul, summoned during an infernal wedding in the morgue, turned the widower into a sort of woman, though not the wife's persona. The new creature calls him/herself Virginia and acquires full possession of the body after the death of the widower's persona during a road accident.

Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to watch Interstellar.
