I'm sorry....but I admit I made myself choke with giggles again and again after posting that on the old boards. Everyone was raving about this movie, and it simple wasn't THAT remarkable. And the book wasn't all that great, either. It just kind of happened at the right time and became a bestseller.

Anyway, I cheekily posted that and the uproar was immediate!

(I think it's the only post I ever did that actually got deleted.)

But, I still laugh when I think of it...I'm sorry. We must take our merriment where we can in this cruel world....

I think I remember the book is fairly short, too...or almost in a larger print. I think I read it in a day (?)

I thought the movie was better than the book.

It wasn't a bad movie. I just remember being surprised it got such RAVES....and an Oscar for the lead actress. It was certainly a quality production...I just didn't find it all THAT remarkable. The most engrossing part for me was how the mom came up with the boy's escape...but nothing before or after that was new.

I found it surprising, I read the book because it was everywhere at the time.It was ok but felt quite naïve.The film I found very moving,possibly because the young actor was so talented.Child actors can be so bad ...cough Emma Watson....they lift you out of the movie.

The film reminded me of The Lovely Bones in some ways.

I've never read the book, but with all this talk about it, I might just. And it even has a proper cover and not just the film poster slapped on there (which seems to be the standart for anything that's been adapted into a film these days).

Although she does breastfeed her five year old....so there is a hint of breast for those with an imagination.
