Watched this about a year ago when it came out and just recently watched Life is Beautiful for a second time having only watched it once about 10 years ago. I really like both movies but when I was watching Life is Beautiful I though of Room a bit, anyone think that Room tried to copy Life is Beautiful at all?
shareTook me a second to figure out what you're getting at. I'm guessing the similarity is a parent trying to shield a horrifying truth from a child. An unusual comparison, because the similarities end there. That's the entire second-half of Life Is Beautiful, which also incorporates more dark humour. In Room, most of Joy's deception of Jack happens before the film even starts, and she reveals the truth less than half the way through the scenes set in Room. The focus of the film is Jack discovering the world outside, and there's less to laugh at. So no, not a copy. Room has its own inspirations.
