The worst part about The Benefactor is that it isn’t bad by any stretch of imagination. It’s just so boring and par-for-the-course that it’s almost insulting. The film has an arrogant sense to itself that it believes it’s something more than the near-nothing it actually is. Gere tries and, occasionally, elevates the material to something better, but otherwise everyone else in the movie has the same sense that they don’t know exactly whats going on. With a flat script, equally flat direction, and an uninteresting turn plot-wise, The Benefactor could benefit from a little more polish: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/the-benefactor/

Yes, yes, we all know that there are reviews about the film. Anyone can quote any reviews - positive or negative. What I want to know is whether you have watched it and what your personal thoughts are regarding the movie.

I just watched it and thought it was just okay. Richard Gere was too "over the top" on his acting. Dakota didn't really have much of a role and her character was pretty boring. There were parts of the film I thought they would play out more but I can't see where it should get any awards.

I thought Gere was great in this but there isn't much of a movie here.

I thought it was a really good movie - far superior to Gere's 'Time Out of Mind' movie about the homeless guy.
Talk about a movie that dragged on and portrayed all the worst traits of homeless people . . . the best character in that movie was NYC.

The Benefactor is possibly the best acting Gere's really ever done. He portrayed PTS very well and all the dynamics of It and addiction as well.
The movie also made a dramatic statement about how some doctors are part of the prescription drug problem as well.

Overall, I thought it was a really moving, heartfelt film.

It’s about narcissism so fitting that it focuses only one character and nothing else because that’s narcissism
