Let me start by mentioning that I'm a big Richard Gere fan and an actor myself. I really enjoyed the film for the most part, I thought Gere's performance was fantastic, so much so that he overshadow the other two actor's who seemed tamed in comparison it almost seemed like Gere was acting on a whole different level. That's what I liked about the film now to my issues:
1. The pacing was really off, I'm not sure if it was the story, or editing or directing but it just seemed really slow and boring at times, to the point where I had to think, "is this scene going anywhere?"
2. I've seemed this mentioned on the boards a couple times but where and how did Gere's character amass such a huge fortune? It seems like he may have been a trust fund baby but they never really gave any information regarding this and I felt it would have added to his character and the story.
3. The biggest thing that really through me off about the movie was Luke. I don't know if it was just me or if anyone else picked up on this but it seemed like at the beginning of the film they were alluding to Luke having some type of checkered past or having been fired from his previous job for doing drugs or him being a cheat but they never really followed through with this so it felt like his character was this useless after thought.
Just my thoughts, that I wanted to share, I'd definitely like the see the director/writer of the film evolve and see where his other films go.
I want to know why he kissed Luke. I want to know the back story about his money too. I want to know why he was in withdraw mode one time and fine the next. I want to know why he was chugging morphine and still hyper? I want to know why he was chugging morphine then emptied one bottle only to harass everyone to get refills without prescription. I want to know why Luke who said no to ecstasy took it then stood on a bridge ledge with a man twice his age knowing he had 'work in the morning'? I want to know how looking at a baby creates this over-powering over-whelming desire to clean-up your life and get into rehab when everyone else, including the one having the baby, has suggested you do the same thing? I want to know why pit a fantastic actor with lame ones so that it makes him look like he's chewing the scenery around them?
I might want to know more stuff but for now these are prying questions.
I want to know why Americans ruin good French films. (ducking) I want to know how he didn't get his head smashed in when blindsided by a car. I want to know why he would mess with the driver of said car from the get go. I want to know why he was alone and only had two friend from school and why were they still in his life 30 years later. I want to know why he limped sometimes and didn't others. I want to know why he preferred red to other colors. I want to know where in Philly it was filmed because we don't see this posh side of Philly ever when we see work there.
I want to know why he kissed Luke. Luke kissed him first. It's a love and not sexual kiss.
I want to know the back story about his money too. Family money and or very successful in business.
I want to know why he was in withdraw mode one time and fine the next. Depression.
I want to know why he was chugging morphine and still hyper? Mood swings.
I want to know why he was chugging morphine then emptied one bottle only to harass everyone to get refills without prescription. He's an addict. Wealthy people don't care about how. Just get it done.
I want to know why Luke who said no to ecstasy took it then stood on a bridge ledge with a man twice his age knowing he had 'work in the morning'? Peer Pressure.
I want to know how looking at a baby creates this over-powering over-whelming desire to clean-up your life and get into rehab when everyone else, including the one having the baby, has suggested you do the same thing? A baby will always change things.
I want to know why pit a fantastic actor with lame ones so that it makes him look like he's chewing the scenery around them? The phone call for blockbuster films are gone and we all have bills.
l'll get my cape... ..I wanna put dem paws on him. Dig that..
I want to know why he kissed Luke. Luke kissed him first. It's a love and not sexual kiss. Didn't see that, but kiss was awkward and unnecessary and not properly explained, which failed the story.
I want to know the back story about his money too. Family money and or very successful in business. Yet we're not privy to it, which failed the story.
I want to know why he was in withdraw mode one time and fine the next. Depression. If so, who what brought him out of it, which wasn't seen, which fails the story.
I want to know why he was chugging morphine and still hyper? Mood swings. Wrong. Morphine is a depressive, and makes one lethargic, rarely 'hyper' when off it, and not seeing why his moods swung failed the story.
I want to know why he was chugging morphine then emptied one bottle only to harass everyone to get refills without prescription. He's an addict. Wealthy people don't care about how. Just get it done. Understood, but his intent was to empty and clean up. And while I get addicts are self-focused (always) and don't reason nor think ahead, but this failed the story.
I want to know why Luke who said no to ecstasy took it then stood on a bridge ledge with a man twice his age knowing he had 'work in the morning'? Peer Pressure. The man was no peer. It failed the story.
I want to know how looking at a baby creates this over-powering over-whelming desire to clean-up your life and get into rehab when everyone else, including the one having the baby, has suggested you do the same thing? A baby will always change things. Granted. But usually it is YOUR baby, deny it? This wasn't enough, and we know it, and it failed the story.
I want to know why pit a fantastic actor with lame ones so that it makes him look like he's chewing the scenery around them? The phone call for blockbuster films are gone and we all have bills. We? Why not take smaller parts, cameos, live simpler? Consolidate? Leave the high-rent area? Stop posturing? Get into selling watches, cable, cars, liquor, cameras, jewelry? Or mentor, give lessons?
When they were on the bridge after taking the Ecstasy pills.
I disagree with you about the backstory on why Fanny was wealthy failed the story and your other questions.
It just wasn't a good movie and that's why the story/movie failed. I think they should have turned it into a Thriller movie instead of whatever genre it was.
It's hard being a number one box office draw to the list that Richard is now. You take the movie roles so you won't have to work the 9-5 like the public.
It was nice talking to you and hope to have another discussion about another movie soon.

That's fine and so be it. I saw an article in, I think, The Washington Post, about it. So it got reviewed, seen, just kind of went into the loop of streaming, but, if you stop and think about it, it gets seen much more that way than putting it into theaters THEN into streaming.
I just know a thing or two about all types of addiction and relapse(s) that ultimately, if you're honest, follow. To make this so SIMPLE bothered that part of me that KNOWS it isn't.
Yeah, I watch a lot of movies and series and respond a lot. This is not a 'new' account but it is a new account. I've been an IMDb poster for ages. I delete a lot because I know an actor and am stalked and my words hijacked. I don't like that. I work hard on my opinions, etc. I don't like to see them as other people's original words, you know?

See I think it had grand potential but in hiring substandard co-stars who seemed more captivated, or intimidated, by Gere it interfered with their acting. The story is present-day. Maybe not all of us are Trust Fund folks but the arrested development part is huge these days.
He was so in character, a seasoned actor used to morphing into a soul on screen, and they looked like they were frozen cold to stone unable to respond to his OTT passion (to me).
With just Richard's scenes or in every scene? I wonder if that was intentional. To make Fanny wild and crazy and the other characters to be calm, like a buffer.
Enjoy your weekend!
