I thought it was a nice touch to get a former SNL cast member involved in this, but it was weird and distracting and not believable to see him as an old forgetful unhealthy old man in a home. They could have at least tried harder with grayer hair and make-up to make him look older! Am I the only one who feels this way??
In reality he's well into his 50s and was age appropriate in this role. His daughters were 32 and 28 respectively. He was not elderly, but suffering from advanced MS and required assisted living as was revealed early in the film.
Colin Quinn could NOT pass for an elderly man! You misunderstood a basic aspect of his character. He wasn't supposed to be "elderly"; he was in a nursing home because he has multiple sclerosis (a serious illness) and couldn't take care of himself, not because he was so old.
You can get a debilitating illness like that at any age. In fact, one of the reasons this was so upsetting for his daughter was that even though he wasn't that old, he still was very sick and was never going to get better.
Colin Quinn was 56 last year, while Amy Schumer was 34. That means that his character would have been 22 when her character was born, which is a completely realistic age difference for someone playing her father.

But he didn't look like he was in his 30s in the opening scene. It would have benefitted the movie if they had made any effort whatsoever to make him look older when decades were supposed to have passed.
I can't speak for anyone else, but my issue was that there was no effort made to make him look like he had aged at all in what was supposed to be 20 something years. It wouldn't have been difficult and it would have helped.
I completely agree. And don't listen to all of the people on here who are telling you how he is the right age and has daughters that age in real life. When it comes to casting you seek somebody who can play the part best, not somebody who just happens to be the right age. It's just a fact that somebody who may be in their late 50's can't really pull off the role of a father in his 50's.
There's plenty other actors out there who could have played the role in a much better way. Some of them might even be younger than Colin Quinn.
