The movie was different, but Latino's were stereotyped. One was an illegal alien and the other was a wife beating hood, not much creativity there. Because of this I gave it a one star, and if I could of given it a zero I would have.
Special pleading? There was the rich white banker in the sweater vest, the white braggart in red suspenders, the young black guy with the typical "minority whine" eating away at him, the hard-featured white Lesbian/single mother/married to a "wife", the mean, bigoted white cop. Also you forgot about the Latino woman who was able to speak in Spanish to the undocumented man. It wasn't like the film was targeting Latinos.
My point is that they used stereotypes, which is the norm concerning Latino's in Hollywood. Who knows if the woman was Latina, just because she spoke Spanish doesn't mean that she is a Latina. Since I am Latino myself, my observation was focused on the Hispanic characters. "typical minority whine"? Without "Whining" there won't be improvement. Since you say that minorities whine, you need too look yourself and do some improvement. Look at the Oscars this year and last year, there were no Blacks nominations. Whining is good!
Since you say that minorities whine, you need too look yourself and do some improvement.
Okay, I get it: typical anti-white racism seems to be your motivating impetus. Of course, it HAS TO BE the critics of minority misbehavior who must "look into themselves and do some improvement". What an arrogant assumption and insult. When was the last time a prominent white person told minorities to look inside themselves and improve their lives and their communities? That floats like a lead balloon in today's "culture of tolerance".
I pointed out that the film also stereotypes blacks AND whites, but your "Latinos R Us!" attitude prevents you from objective viewing.
And minorities do whine, to the extent that people just "turn it off" because so much of it is mindless, uncritical, mostly self-serving stereotypical pleading - continually repeated, heedless of major advances and a lot of governmental outreach - not to mention ceaseless mass media "infiltration" of the culture with minority views, messages as well as dramatic/comedic entertainment characters and roles.
Of course there's "room for improvement" - what's the biggest room in the world? Why, the room for improvement! - but it's not just white people who need to be improved. Perhaps, though, you can provide some examples wherein things like "tolerating diversity", "affirmative action", and the like, do not necessitate or imply some sacrifice, some denial, some diminishment, and a lot of guilt laid upon white people and their culture. Implied racism is as bad and as damaging as the real thing, and minorities typically use it as a weapon against whites. Unfortunately, "playing the race card" gives minorities nigh-unimpeachable social advantages.
Hey, many times the racist card does have to be played. So what you are saying is that Whites aren't racist? I don't want anything from whites, I come from a good educated family, and nothing was given to us. Whites also whine, look at you. Don't try to put yourself in our place because you provably have never experienced racism like people of color do. The term "race card" can be viewed as reverse psychology, it doesn't work for me because I know racism is alive and well. "When was the last time a prominent white person told minorities to look inside themselves and improve their lives and their communities?" you have to be kidding me, lol. You live in a dream world. You have a good day. I won't continue with this foolish conversation, on your part anyway.
Streotypes are true? So then the stereotypes that white girls are gold digging sl*ts that age poorly and white men have little d*cks are true? Alright then. To say nothing of whites stealing lands, labor, natural resources, and starting endless wars, then turning around and acting the victim.
You missed the point if you don't understand the use of stereotypes in this film?or see that everyone/thing was a stereotype or film cliché?all in an effort to make a point about the movie and people as a whole.
