How do they pay bills?

Other than Joe, no one has a paying job. What do they do for money? How do they buy clothes and food? How do they pay rent? It's possible that Iris still works for the paper, but even if she does, there's no way she can afford an apartment like that on the starting salary of a newspaper reporter.

Does Barry still work for the SID?
I am only mid way on season 4 still.

reply

He does now. He was reinstated in this season’s finale.

reply

That still doesn't explain how everyone supports themselves....

reply

Oh, I agree. I was just answering a specific question from another poster.

reply

Im not sure If Im remembering correctly but I think Barry inherited something from previous Wells, some warehouse they mentioned(they trained in it once and he said it its his) or something in an episode. I know it was something in those lines. You could argue he sold that for a few million.
Though I agree in general definitely, he would then have to support all of them. What can one expect, this whole season was a pile of sh...

reply

Correct. Thawne/Wells actually bequeathed everything STAR labs to Barry. It would be nice to see them actually hire people to do non-Flash work, but.....they at least explained it.

reply

Hire them with what money? Even if there was some imaginary nest egg, it's going to run out. No income is being generated.

reply

STAR Labs was obviously VERY successful before the accident. They didn't go out of business, they were disgraced by the particle accelerator explosion. You're assuming there was not tens of millions of dollars in assets that Barry got as well.

would it kill them to drop a line and SAY that? no. But you can't dismiss it out of hand.

reply

I can't disagree. This season was horrible. I'll admit, I don't remember additional buildings being left to Barry, just STAR Labs. Though, let's say he did sell a building, that money would disappear pretty quickly. I'd bet their power bill alone is thousands of dollars per month. Unless they also have a machine that produces unlimited free power!

reply

Yeah, their electric bill and property taxes for that behemoth of a building would be in the million(s) probabily per year. But I just thought about this, they are housing criminals afterall, dangerous criminals that cannot be housed anywhere else (supposedly), like a private prison. So they might be getting a nice monthly payoff from the city to keep the lights on and the prisoners in their cages.

reply

You assume that in their super scientific lab complex they don't generate their own power?

reply

I dont know you think they do? I think its unlikey, more than likely. We havent seen anything. And after the explosion Im pretty sure the city would forbid them creating any experimental energy sources.

reply

i would think they had in beforehand TO power the particle accelerator.

reply

Mooching off of their loved ones.

Cisco invented a gun (in one afternoon, out of spare vacuum cleaner parts) that turns stuff into gold, and you wonder how they get by? He probably has dozens of patents licensed for handsome royalties.
