the beginning, with the awful repartee between wallace and side-kick, his complete toolishness, are a high hurdle on the front end of this movie - i find the guy who played wallace completely repellent in every respect, suppose most others did, as well, and probably by the director's design.

but he runs a real risk, because the apple guy's game is so lame, of running folks off the movie before things start grooving in on the creepy and funny

johnny depp was just priceless, as well all the side characters - the comic rendering of his scene was so spot on, what went before so awkwardly sophomoric.

its oddly uneven, i guess i'm trying to say - so much so that many might bail and miss a film that rounds out quite nicely as horror farce.
