Who here was rooting for Zobrist's plan to work?

I meant his plan in the movie, not the novel - to get rid of half of the earth's population.

Seriously, who liked Zobrist and his plan? Don't be shy... tell me.

Nothing is what is seems.

reply

Anyone who rooted for any of the plans (movie or book) is a lunatic who should never be allowed to a position of power.

reply

Hi, a lunatic here (apparently). But don't worry: I'm not aiming for a position of power nor am I planning to weed out half of the population.

Yes, I was rooting for the plan to work, just like (spoiler ahead) I was in Grimsby.
That the world is overpopulated and it will get real bad really fast is sadly a fact backed by scientists that most people don't want to believe it. It's numbers, it's not a silly conspiracy theory.
Dan Simmons already mentioned it in "Hyperion".

reply

I believe that Zobrist is a visionary, and I do believe that these kinds of extermination ideas will be seriously considered in the future one way or the other.

Sometimes I believe that World War 3 (Which is nearing rapidly); will be a war focused on extermination. "To free-up space occupied by unwanted inhabitants" or to get rid of sources of nuisances once and for all.

Either way - like it or not, these kinds of plots of mass suicide or genocide will be definitely in the near future of mankind. And people once there's no more room for us to walk on, will welcome it with open arms.

Nothing is what is seems.

The way to go should never be to kill ppl... :|
overpopulation its a far more complex subject than simply "there are too many people".

in my opinion the solution is getting better at using resources or find new resources witch we have been doing for ages as the human population grows...

reply

It's really not even that complex. There are billions of tonnes of biomass that could all be converted and consumed in a pinch. No one's going to war because there isn't enough food in the next million years. It's utter laughable nonsense.

People don't go to war for survival. They avoid war if their goal is survival. People go to war to win, because it's inside us to get to the top, where we can most efficaciously spread our individual genes through the highest number of viable offspring.

The Bloody Gate, The Bloody Hound, Evidently Chickentown.

reply

Not its not a fact backed by scientists. The moron in the movie claimed we would be at 32 billion people in a couple decades. In real life the fertility rate is dropping fast and we will level off at 11 billion people around 2100 and then could start going down from there.

reply

No.

I didn't like Serena so I wasnt rooting for her but for that style of movie I would have liked the box to crack open then fade to black. Just would have been more dramatic IMO.

One question re Zobrist - why did he commit suicide? I might have dozed off and missed it. Did he change his mind or was he just too much of a coward to see his plan out?

reply

Christoph Bouchard was after him in the opening scenes of the film. He wanted to capture him to know where he hid the bomb and the virus (Since he wanted that for himself, or for the people he works for to sell it on the black market).

Since Zobrist obviously knew that he wouldn't stand any kind of torture, and was not going to jeopardize his plan at any cost - He threw himself off the top of the building Bouchard had him cornered at.

RIP Zobrist...

Nothing is what is seems.

reply

Oh thanks. Not sure how I missed that.👍 I wasn't too keen on seeing this because I didn't like the first two but apart from some of the shaky cam I quite enjoyed this one. I thought Serena was a pain in the bum but loved seeing Sidse on screen again.

reply

Oh derp, I just remembered the scene but I didnt realise that was zobrist. I'm a doofus.

reply

Yep.. it's exactly what the planet is crying for
