As the only friend in the group who had read the book, all I could think about whilst watching the movie was the twist at the ending and the movie ruined it by making a typical Hollywood save the world feel good ending. I was really dissapointed, and when I told my friends the book ending they all agreed it would have been much better for the movie as well.
Another thing that dissapointed me was the lack of scenes in Turkey and too much time spent on Langdon and Elizabeth romantic history that didn't add anything to the story.
All in all I was expecting a 7-8 rated movie, and left the cinema dissapointed after watching a 4 rated movie at best.
I was pissed and I haven't read the book. I went to Wikipedia and found out how much better the movie could have been if it had gone with the book's ending.
The issue I see with the books ending in a film, is it would mean nothing that happened mattered in terms of Langdon. That feels like a cheap ploy, at least in a film (novels and films are very different mediums).
Yes, I was disappointed by the ending as well, but I was just overall disappointed in the whole movie. I loved Da Vinci Code, both the book and the movie. I didn't like the Angels and Demons book, but the movie wasn't too bad.
I loved the book from this one and thought the movie ended up just boring. In fact, at one point I even dozed off and had to rely the last half.
Instead of making use of all the beautiful things to picture, that were really focal points in the book, they glossed them over in favor of overdone special effects. (A sign or our times, I guess.)
The script was plebeian.
As they didn't have a script for this book for such a long time, I like to think that Hanks contracted for it on the basis of doing the 3 movies, not knowing how ordinary this one would be.
I had been waiting so long for it, and it was just a disappointment. Period.
Immediately after The Lost Symbol novel was released, I read here on IMDb that Ron Howard optioned that to film.
When I thought that film was already in pre-production, Inferno comes out and then a few months after that, it's announced that Inferno will be made instead.
I was disappointed by that. I wanted to see TLS on film over Inferno (but then again, I have such a fascination with Washington DC).
