Larry

Ever since Larry came on as a supporting character I've been waiting for him to be revealed as a total Hollywood slime ball with multiple woman on the side. He just came across as a guy that would eventually hurt Tina.
However, he is probably the nicest, most sincere character on the entire show. He puts up with Tina's garbage and is just a generally congenial guy.
Especially last night's episode when he helped with the baby and when he was honest and direct that he did not want kids. He could have strung Tina along, but he was direct, which was by far the best way to go.
After this much character development, I hope they don't make him out to be a villain.

Totally agree that the character of Larry has not been what I expected. He is a genuine kind, loving person as evidenced by his treatment of his little dog, Tina and the baby.

I actually like him.

reply

Agree with both you guys as well, I kept worrying that he would turn up to be like the usual slime ball, but for once they didn't Hollywood the heck out of this show, it keeps taking turns away from what I expected and for that it keeps me interested.

reply

There are elements of the show I like, and those I dislike, but generally I credit the writers for not lazily creating any wretched, irredeemable villains. Even David, who wrecked a family, isn't a sleaze - he's a lonely single dad who fell in love.

It would have been so easy for Larry to turn out to be a Hollywood slimeball, but he's a genuine, decent, good-tempered man, which makes Tina's plight all the more difficult to resolve.

reply

I agree with what you said about David. Yes, he knowingly slept with a married woman, but like you said, it was because he was a VERY confused and lonely single dad. He actually fell in love (or at least what he thought was love) and wasn't just trying to get laid. Great writing by not taking the easy way.

Suck great writing and acting. It is terrible HBO is canceling it.

They axed Christopher Guest's 'Family Tree,' barely giving it a chance to build an audience. More recently, 'Getting On' had come into its own, yet prematurely got the boot. Then there's 'Enlightened,' which deserved more than two seasons. Along with 'Togetherness' these efforts were all wonderfully realized and none of them pandered to a mass audience sensibility. They all were 'niche' programming from the get-go.

I don't understand HBO's intentions, but they've been stumbling ever since the Sopranos and Six Feet Under ran their course. Game of Thrones is going strong, but really, what else do they have? True Blood was a campy mess and True Detective lost its way on the sophomore season. Boardwalk Empire never reached mass acceptance and although it's got all the ingredients for a hit, Vinyl is far from able to deliver the type of following the network needs to keep subscribers happy.

Maybe another network will come to the rescue and resuscitate 'Togetherness.' It is/was a class act from top to bottom.

Oh STFU! If you don't like it, don't watch! Idiot.

Comprehension isn't your strong suit. I was lamenting its loss.

They cancelled Togetherness?

I haven't watch any HBO series since The Sopranos. I did watch Boardwalk last February & March (all seasons) on demand because I'm very close to Boston & we had so much snow I couldn't get my car out of my driveway unless I wanted to do great damage to it & my street is very narrow & it has AWD but it's a large car. There were mountains of snow here & after 7.5 feet of it in less than three weeks & none melted.

Family Tree was the best! Each episode was better than the last.

Six feet under running its course? You must be kidding. It should t have ever been cancelled. It was the best show on tv ever. There were hundreds of episodes that they could have developed. Other than Michael c hall and Peter Krause the others have nearly disappeared. Bad decision HBO

Six Feet Under wasn't cancelled.
