Ferris Bueller???

C'mon, everyone knows Jennifer Grey was in Ferris Bueller!!! That among many other examples makes me just think Tina is a complete fool. How she's so certain of something that she's willing to bet money on it even though she's dead wrong.

That said; I understand her point how she made this guy over to be more fit, handsome, confident and ultimately ended up gaining success as a result. I get how she now feels cheated, like she did all the work... But the whole time she could have had him she didn't want him. She mocked him, rolled her eyes at him and rejected him repeatedly. So now that he moved onto someone else and she's desperate to have him back she just seems even more pathetic.

Honestly, both Alex and Tina are being selfish idiots. Back when Alex was just a fat, unemployed shlub, Tina only "helped" him because she never really had anything else to do and seeing how pathetic he was, made her feel better. When things starting improving for him and he gained some confidence, she never truly gave him the time of day and ran to rich Larry.
Now that Alex has found some success, she wants back in- Alex knows this and resents her past transgressions.
Sure Alex has a huge head right now from some minor success, he is right to treat her as a phony that regrets passing him up.

Well put.

While i initially was putting down Tina I agree that he's a jerk too. He accepted her makeover and all the attention he got from her and then upon recognizing that she'd developed feelings for him (shallow or not) he sort of flaunted his success in front of her as payback, as if to say "who's the loser now"??? clearly if he were to become overweight or unsuccessful again she would lose interest quickly and he knows this too.

It's pretty clear to me Larry was not with Tom Hanks, but with another woman. When Tina realizes this, it's going to get ugly.

reply

Yeah, I've been waiting for the whole Larry thing to fall apart. It's weird, because for the most part Larry has been a pretty stand up guy. I just have a feeling he'll be another Hollywood Producer creep.

You know it's hard to get much of a read. I feel like he's not a bad guy at all and they haven't really done much with his character to portray in in any particular way, good or bad. I feel at least up until this point he is the example of what Tina might think she would want; a nice home, security, someone who will take care of her...but that this just isn't enough. No matter how much money he has she still feels empty being there.

Larry didn't come off as a jerk to me. He put up with her BS and pampered her. He knows Alex loves her and Tina has some sort of feelings towards him too. Larry knows why he's around Tina, to provide luxury. Once the starting a family conversation came about, he was super honest with Tina and held the door open for her to pursue that with someone else, instead of stringing her along. He knew she wanted kids before she even admitted it. Also, instead of throwing Tina and her nephew out of his home after he started crying, he consoled the baby.

People in their 20s might not know that information about Jennifer Grey. Alex's girlfriend is portrayed as being a bit younger than that so Tina assumed she wouldn't know movie-specific details from the 80s.

I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least its an ethos.

reply

I'm 27 and I had no freaking idea who Jennifer Grey was.
