Problematic, But Still Better Than The 2008 Steve Miner Remake

I'll admit, there's some problems with this movie. In particular, it has much to do with dialogue and the actors. Not to mention it's a remake of a movie that was already a masterpiece.

But it's a damn sight more original and entertaining than the 2008 remake. I didn't expect much from that movie, but it still manage to come in lower than what I could fathom. Just things like that stupid shit with the new "Bub" not eating people because he was a vegan when he was alive or Nick Cannon's epic line, "Now that's gansta!" I've never seen a remake dump on the original source material more than that movie.

The most egregious crime of the 2008 remake is that is was made by Steve Miner. Miner directed some true classic horror films of the 80s, which include House (1986) and Warlock (1989), plus he directed two of the best Friday the 13th movies. Plus, let's not forget that he gave us the Wonder Years. How he went from that body of work to the 2008 remake, I'll never fully understand.

I have to agree overall. This film does use a lot of elements of the original, and some of them are interesting. But... The main problems are weak dialog, poorly written characters and actors who are a mixed lot but with none that are outstanding.

It is also annoying that most of the deaths are attributable to terribly irresponsible and foolish actions by the designated hero.
