AMA on imdb huh?

score out of 10?

Worth paying to see in theaters?

Does the plot (which sounds silly to me) come off as such?

Great cast minus RR! Would the movie be just as good (assuming you think it's good) without the cast?

Just noticed Ryan Reynolds name is not on the poster. Is this deliberate or was he some kind of last minute addition?

Thanks

reply

Not sure what AMA means, sorry

I'd probably give it a 7.5 or an 8. The more and more I think about it the better it is.

I think the movie is very good, but I wouldn't necessarily say you have to see it in theatres. I only say that because there's not really any huge action scenes that should be seen on the big screen, but it'd definitely be worth the money!

The plot isn't at all silly. It feels like a mature man's Self/less, which I did enjoy. The plot is very convoluted, and jumps around a lot which is one of my biggest gripes. It's a very mature story that seems somewhat plausible, at least the way they present it in the movie.

Regarding your Ryan Reynolds comment and poster question, don't deliberately avoid this movie if you dislike him. Everyone did good in their roles, most notably Gal Gadot who gives a very emotional performance and Kevin Costner, who plays a wisecracking a**hole. Tommy Lee Jones could've been played by anybody, and Gary Oldman did fine (as he usually does). There's a reason they don't Have Ryan's name on the poster, he has maybe 5 to 7 minutes of screen time. I was very surprised how little he appeared in the film.

Overall, I think Criminal is a very enjoyable movie, with a surprising amount of humor and some very bloody violence. I recommend seeing it, but no need to necessarily run out to the theatre and see it as soon as possible due to it not being needed to see on the big screen. It's worth watching however and I think any sane person would at the very least find some good in it. Despite the plot getting sidetracked a little near the 3rd act, I think it is still a solid movie. 7.5-8/10.

AMA - Ask Me Anything

AMA on imdb huh?

as there is already one on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ama

Tell me about Antje Traue's character, what happens to her, what's her role, Details please! Does she live, die? If die how so, etc... Big fan of hers.

reply

Yeah want to know about Antje as well.

Also Alice eve, what is her role, how big is it, does she live, die, if so how?

reply

Alice Eve plays a hitman type of sort. The other woman I kind of forgot to be honest. I don't really want to spoil if they die or not because knowing what happens to them would ruin an enjoyable part of the story

reply

It won't ruin it for me, please tell me, you can PM me if you want.

reply

SPOILERS

Alice Eve, a hitman, ends up dying by Kevin Costner near the end of the movie to try and prevent a nuclear launch :)

reply

How does she die?

What about Antje?

reply

She, very brutally, gets beaten over the head with a blunt of object. The Antje gets shot from what I remember.

reply

Are their deaths bloody, bodies seen? Also what about other characters like Oldman, Gal gadot and Tommy lee jones and such, they live?

reply

who kills Antje? she have a large role? Near end of movie?

reply

A random henchmen kills Antje I believe, but all of the others are very violent and bloody. Tommy LEE Jones, Gal Gadot, and Gary Oldman all survive. The only ones to die are Ryan Reynolds and the two females you two have questions about. All deaths are excruciatingly bloody.

reply

Kills her why, is it execution or what? Is there a lot of blood on her body, is it seen?

reply

A random henchman? I thought Antje was a villain in this one, how'd that happen? Where did she get shot, 100% fatal right? Please don't worry about spoilers, I don't see anything unless I know it all in advance and really want to know about her role.

reply

My bad, I believe she's killed by Costner. I accidently confused her for someone else.

reply

How, what happens? Details please! Been a fan of her's since Pandorum.

reply

So she is still shot? And was it bloody, body seen? And is Alice's body seen?

reply

Yes it's bloody. No they don't show up a close up of the body.

reply

Was that for Antje or Alice?

reply

If you're familiar with Gal Gadot acting career - do you think that she improved, based on what you saw in this movie? If you don't know her - what did you think about her performance?

reply

I had really only seen Gal Gadot in the Fast and Furious movies and Batman v Superman. This is by far her best performance though. It's very good, and she has some very emotional scenes.

reply

How big of a role does Scott Adkins have? Is he a villain?

reply

1) What exactly is the business going on with Costner's conscious being in this film? The trailers make it very ambiguous what exactly is supposed to have happened. Is he supposed to have the Reynold's characters mind transplanted into his? Is his mind just supposed to have been manipulated to make him THINK hes the Reynold's character? Trailers kind of make it look like something like of Total Recall/Face Off like thing where the villain is turned into the hero, but it never states how or why!

2) Are there any good plot surprises or twists? Not asking you to spoil them obviously! I just want to know if you felt the narrative was satisfying?

3) What kind of movie is this? You say its not a riveting action movie, so then would be it a more intriguing psychological film? What movies would you compare it too?

reply

I just wanted to clarify that Alice Eve plays a CIA operative while Antje or however you spell her name is the hitman. The OP got them mixed up, as well as their respective fates (he said so in a later post, but just in case ppl didn't see that post where he clarified it).

reply

So its Antje that is bashed over the head and Alice is shot?

reply

Yes. Tbh, I felt Alice was greatly underused. TLJ was too, but Eve gets thrown away like an extra pretty much. It did surprise me that she was offed so unceremoniously though, so I guess that is OK in a sense...

Everyone gives a good performance, but Old man, Jones, Eve, and Reynolds are so limited by the script, they really didn't need to get those big stars. Don't get me wrong, I liked the film, and I'll probably see it again after its official release, I just think they could have used some of those stars a lot better. It's like having Tom Brady, Adrian Peterson, and Odell Beckham Jr on your team but only playing them for one half.

reply

Stupid autocorrect on my phone made Oldman two words lol...

reply

So what are Alice and Antje's deaths like, OP sad bloody but like how bloody, are bodies seen at all... what is alice's death like, is it quick and shocking, is it exection or in a gunfight?

reply

Eve and Costner are in a vehicle that gets shot up by the villains. They exit on the opposite side and Eve says she got hit. Then Antje shoots at Costner but hits Eve and it kills her. I think it was in the chest. Not graphic.

Costner bludgeons Antje in the head with a desk lamp. All we see is the camera focused upward at Costner (Antje is on the ground). While you don't actually see the body or blood, it looks pretty violent. Then there's very brief, unfocused closeup of her head and you can see a little blood.

reply

So did Costner and Antje have a fight scene or something with that being at the end of it? Hoping so, love Antje Traue, her fight scene in Man of Steel in Smallville was awesome. So hoping she'd have a good final one here.

Also was she for sure dead or could she just be unconscious?

reply

Thanks for answering. Is Alice's body ever seen or is it just shot and gone?

reply

Yes, her body is shown slumped behind Costner for a few seconds before he gets away from the gun battle

reply

She shoots Costner and thinks he's dead. Then he gets up and grabs the lamp while she's on the phone with her boss.

reply

It's pretty average altogether. Why do you guys think Ryan Reynolds even took a part in this thing? Did he owe the director a favor or something.

Trying to go for an informative, and hopefully something people think is funny, youtube channel so hope you guys like. Thanks.

I'm not too sure. He only really had to shoot a couple of scenes so he might have just done it for the money.
