Ryan omitted from poster
Why is Ryan Reynolds in the commercials and on the front of imdb but name omitted from poster
shareWhy is Ryan Reynolds in the commercials and on the front of imdb but name omitted from poster
shareLooks from the trailers and TV spots like he should be the #1 supporting actor (2nd billed) on the poster & they didn't even put his name on it.

He appears in the movie for 10 minutes, that's why. (I saw the movie yesterday)
shareRightfully so. It would be a bate and switch to promote him in the movie considering he only has a bit part.

Very odd, not sure why he was cast in this movie at all. Maybe he owed the director a favor or something, I don't know. But he's in it for five minutes tops and then gone.
Trying to go for an informative, and hopefully something people think is funny, youtube channel so hope you guys like. Thanks.

Funny, what drew me to watch the trailer in the first place was that Ryan Reynolds is in the video preview still frame cover thing (anyone know what that is actually called?), which is kind of misleading since you would assume that he is a main actor in the movie. You know, why would they put someone there like that unless that person has a big part? Then I watched the trailer and it does imply that he is at least one of the main actors. With the exception of Kevin Costner, Ryan appears in the trailer more than anyone else! Then I get to the end where they show a quick scene of each main actor after they display their name and I see Kevin, Gary, Tommy, and Gal. Wait what? I watched the end two more times trying to figure out if I missed Ryan's name or something.
I learned from some of the other comments that he actually has a very small part. Since Ryan is very popular right now, I can only assume that they are trying to overly promote him in order to get more people attracted to the movie. Not sure why they left his name off though. I did do some research about how they market names for movies, it's called billing and apparently it's taken very seriously and it's more important to cast members than I realized. Perhaps he is left off because it would be some sort of affront to the other stars with much larger parts if he was included next to them? I read that they will sometimes include big names with small roles when the majority of the main cast isn't as well known, but that obviously isn't the case with this movie...
I hope that I gave you a plausible enough reason that it satisfied some of your curiosity! It was bugging me until I found a reasonable explanation to let myself believe. :)
He was going to be the lead in Criminal, but director found out that Ryan already did Selfless, with very very very similar concept. Ryan told him (after Costner been cast) he's a big Costner fan and would love to be in this movie because of that, even for 5 minutes.
He's omitted from the poster because of similarities with Selfless. And he's shown that is one of the rare actors without ego.
They could not afford to pay him enough to be included in much of the film must less its marketing.
