Very enjoyable!

The critics haven't liked anything Costner has done since Mr. Brooks, so I wasn't going to let their dysfunctional bias deter me from seeing it. Criminal is very much worth the theater experience. The movie's sleek opening sequence moves with good rhythm and great action. The plot is established quickly and Costner carries the story with a strong and likable presence. Bits of well placed humor come across as though they are unique to Costner's style. Costner is met on screen by a supporting cast who delivers unfailingly. Whenever the main star isn't in the scene, the plot keeps moving forward without any loss of suspense, fun and intrigue. I enjoyed this movie a great deal, though I was little lost sometimes on what was happening in the story and why. Still loved it. Without spoiling the ending, I'll just say that the very last shot of the film is a personal message from Costner to his fans and to the world: "I'm back!!"

Great Film - Costner is a truly great actor in my opinion for what its worth.
He can rescue the lamest of scripts with his style and there arent many in Hollywood now that can!

He proved all the critics wrong with Waterworld more than recouping its losses through its endless replays on Sky and its a film i could watch again and again with the great Dennis Hopper how could it fail it was also another underrated movie.

There are a lot of thriller movies like this one around but this one really held my attention even though it had a bit of a mad plot , added pathos , spiced up with humour Costner style and nicely paced with a good villain and half decent story.

Solid 8/10

Mr Brooks was a magnificent movie - what do the critics know!

This movie had an fun plot concept and it was treated pretty seriously within the development of the story line. I went with it and frankly Costner did a fabulous acting job. He was so badass and his voice so gravelly - I loved him in the role. In my opinion this is one of his best roles and his screen time really centered all the emotion that his character was processing as the film progressed. The movie had good action sequences and some effective bad guy characters. I lost the story line a couple times as others have mentioned - but I didn't care either because Costner kept the entire thing moving forward. We were looking on-demand for something to watch and the cast and trailer made us want to take a chance on it.I was really surprised to see how panned it was by movie critics - but as my husband says, "What do they know?!"

Great film with a more original plot

I enjoyed how they made the transition with Costner's character. There was definitely a little of both in him. But the good - more importantly the functional pre-frontal cortex - outweighed the bad by far. It merely gave an edge to his (meaning Pope's) character. Kinda cool really.

Also - brief trivia - Kevin Costner graduated from the High School I went to. Villa Park High School in Orange County, CA. He was about five years before me though so I never ran into him.

The movie is one of those movies that's enjoyable enough for a viewing but not a movie ill come back to see again and to me a movies real worth long term is whether it's a movie i want to re-watch from time to time as the years pass.

p.s. Costner's most memorable movies in general for me are... Open Range (2003) (10/10 ; within my Top 10 movies) and Mr Brooks (2007) (9/10 ; which makes it within my Top 29 movies).
