Feminism didn't save Claire from an ass-beating by Jamie. It's one reason I hated the first book so much. I mean, she tries going home, gets caught, put her husband in danger by having to rescue her from his sworn enemy, when it was impossible for her to rescue herself, she can't tell him why she disobeyed his order to hide and not get caught by the British, and he beats her because it's expected of him by his men, and the punishment for a man would have been much worse.
Frankly, if I had been in Claire's position, I wouldn't have tried to run away, I would have found a smarter way to get back to the stones, and I would never have let Jamie beat me. He would have regretted being born if he tried beating me with a strap.
Feminism also didn't save Geilis Duncan from getting arrested for witchcraft.
