why didnt he come clean about his wife, feels like he has become more shady after 20 years.

shareOh, he definitely could have, and I agree that he should have. He chose not to. He says he chose not to because he's a coward and he's afraid Claire would leave him.
Claire's not thrilled with the fact that he married. She tried to prepare herself for that possibility and knew that there was a very good chance he would marry. He had no reason to think he would ever see her again, and he's only human and would want companionship. That's not really the problem. Claire doesn't really love it that Jamie married, but she's accepted it.
Claire is furious when she finds out WHO Jamie married. And that's part of the reason Jamie was afraid to tell her.
