This movie does not deserve the hate it gets
I figured the low rating (2.8 as of today) on imdb is undeserved, and I thought I'd check this movie out simply because it has got so much attention and has become a cultural topic. For the same reason I watched 'Sound of Freedom'.
I enjoyed most of this movie. This is satire, with a point. I'm not black, so I can't totally identify with the feeling of always walking on eggshells or being hyper aware of the way everyone around me views me. But I can be open to understanding it. This movie puts that in the forefront, and I assume that has made a lot of white people uncomfortable - ironically the exact point the movie makes - which led to this low score.
I'm not saying this movie is amazing. I would recommend people see it, and then have a discussion about it. If this movie got a score like 4.5-4.9, I would disagree but would not suspect rate-bombing. But this is not a sub-3 movie at all.
Some of the points made are a bit on-the-nose, and it overshadows the more subtle moments.
It's not amazing, but it's nowhere near garbage which is what many voices are calling it.
