im 100% okay with the Martha scene

pretty much every film we watch has coincidences. some far far less believable and dumber than their moms having the same name

batman was in a bloodlust. kicking superman ass and he was about to have a kryptonite spear rammed through his body. SO what will boycott superman last thoughts be? save his mom. it humanized superman to batman and takes him out of his bloodlust.

totally believable and half as ridiculous as the coincidences and twists thrown in marvel movies that motivate characters.

I know im in the minority though.

No, this was my favorite scene in this edge of your seat blockbuster movie

the extended edition is actually better and makes slightly more sense. yet Jesse is still there to ruin it.

I love this movie. We got to see Batman and Superman go at it and then a triple threat fight between Doomsday against Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. This movie had 2 main events matches

I feel like we needed solo films before to earn it. and killing superman movie 2??? avengers had 4 films before the avengers.

I also didnt care about the villain. Luther was easily dispatched, and doomsday was a personalityless cgi monster.

DC had no patience. They wanted to jump right in and catch up with Marvels Avengers

reply

they wanted that team up movie money without earning it. theres a reason most films have 1 character/protagonist.

they understood what people wanted (a teamup) but not why they wanted it so bad (well developed solo films)

That’s what they should've done, but no. What they did was have Batman decide not to kill Superman anymore simply because the name “Martha” threw him off. It’s as if their moms having the same name was enough to make them friends all of a sudden. That’s not believable at all, it’s still one of the most ridiculous things I’ve seen on film, and that's saying something. Just because other movies have ridiculous and improbable scenes, that doesn’t make this one ok.

reply

yes and ti threw him off, because that was superman last thoughts before he was about to be taken out. its just as believable as anything I see in any other film today.

I'd go further than the OP: it wasn't Superman expressing last thoughts; it was a very deliberate ploy. He already knew Batman was Bruce Wayne. He already knew both their mothers were named Martha. He used MARTHA instead "my mom" as a tactical move to appeal to Bruce's better nature.

The tactic was sound. The EXECUTION was objectionable. It was ham-handed and over-obvious, basically ridiculous in performance.

Now, I'm no director OR actor, so I can't tell you how I would've done it better (because I could NOT have done it better). I just know it could have been done better, because it made sense plot-wise.

EDIT: Actually I can think of one instance where a similar tactic was used more effectively both in-story and from a filmmaking perspective: in the “Hawkeye” finale, the use of Natasha and Yelena’s childhood whistle stopped Yelena from killing Clint.

Agreed. I thought it was great back when I first saw it. And it's not like the coincidence was made up to serve the movie. It was an amusing little thing and they used for a significant plot point in the movie (basically, it caused Batman to hesitate out of sheer confusion). I felt like it was an organic coincidence. Totally believable as you said.
