Mother - Mather???

Why the holy sake would someone name character "Mather"...? Sounds like "mother". And even two of them. It confuses and no point at all. I need a captain.

If you think Mather is a bad name then his first name, Cotten , and his father's name, Increase, must really bother you. The names were taken from the real persons in history.
