Creepy Shadow Female Figure

That's the best way to describe it.... I've already watched episode 7 so warning that I do mention a little bit of spoilers for that episode in here:

What is up with that dead female thing that is following Anne around? In episode 7 after Anne finally does something to the poor now-not-pregnant Woman (trying to leave some surprise for those who haven't seen it) Anne looks in the mirror and her reflection is the creepy female figure..... also in the episode it shows the woman figure jumping on the woman and poking her finger thru the woman's eyeball up to her brain (find out later it's to erase her memories) but during the brain scramble the figure turns from the gross female thing.. to Anne.. back to the weird figure and back to Anne. I would say that it's how the woman will see Anne now that Anne took her child but that's not accurate since Anne saw the figure several times outside her home. The figure also moves the cradle that Anne got for the baby... any guesses? Maybe some type of curse for using that spell? Or maybe the figure is some type of deity/protector of "child bearing"

reply

maybe its annes darkside taken physical form? i honestly dont now.annes a very powerful witch so its possible.

I saw the episode too, so I'm glad there is someone else to talk about it with now.

I think that creature was Anne's hag, like Mary used to torture Mercy with hers in Season One.

She's finally crossed the line into complete darkness, in spite of her justifications for taking the baby. Anne liked to believe that she was using her magic for good, but stealing Gloriana's baby from her womb is too far.

I totally forgot about Mary's "Hag"... I love Anne so much.. she has always been one of my fav and I was actually excited she was a super powerful witch (I wanted to see her do bad things lol)

I'll have to go back and find the Mary hag bit because I vaguely remember it.. but now that you say that... it's probably what it is... can you remind me how Mary got her to stop showing up? Or is Anne just scared because she doesn't know how to control the Hag so the hag is controlling her right now?

I'm going to miss this show so much! The woman who played Anne played in the Tudors and that's how i found this show... so sad it's cancelled

reply

Finally saw it, yeah that is her hag. They didn't do to much with the idea in season 2, I actually thought it was a really cool thing to see it in the mirror.

Yeah it is a shame this show is going to be gone.

Whenever they showef Mary's hag, she was in control of it and using it to scare Mercy, so it may just be that Anne hadn't fully learned about it yet whenever it was scaring her. She later says something like "I know what you are" so possibly she read up on it and realised it was her hag, like she'd seen last season in the well with the Countess.

The only time that Mary wasn't in control was when the Sentinel put her in that box, and she basically told the hag to fûck off whenever it tried to scare her.

The hag is a form the witches can project to scare other people and probably protect their own identities. I like what the show has done with this idea, because it's like their version of the reports of witches sending their "spirit" or "spectre" to hurt others.

reply

I thought their "hags" were simply the appearance of their souls now that they belong to Satan. They've always seemed to be 100% in control of it after all and their reflections (to them) show their hag form rather than what the world sees.

I'm behind by two episodes though so I'm not entirely sure what this thread is referring to, ha.

"No! He is imprinted on you like a gay duckling. If you don't wean him off you slowly, he'll die."

reply

I think it was a mixture of their souls belonging to the Devil and simply a frightening form they can use to shield their identities.

In Season One, Mary's reflection showed the hag, but it didn't mean that it was her true form and the world saw a beautiful woman. I think it was simply to show the audience that she was the witch tormenting Mercy.

reply

When I first saw her, I thought back to the beginning of the series where a dead looking hag would appear as Mary in her reflection so that's what I was tying it to. Whenever Mary would look in a mirror, that hag would appear instead of her own reflection.

I could be wrong but that's what I was thinking.

I have EXORCISED the demon

I thought it was the devil. Mary said they all receive a visit that they hv to give pay for the gifts hv (something like that) The devil took her into the woods they consumated their connection. Think Mary said it happens to all witches. Anne then said she thought it was a dream. Long story short it was the devil

reply

Anne already had that encounter last season while she was reading her father's book. It warned her about it, then she was transported to the woods and chased, before the consummation.
