Mather's sacrifice
He sacrificed himself so that the people of Salem may live, although a sad, gullible and pitiful life under the rule of Anne Hale, he still gave his life for them. So why is he in hell. According to the lore, if you give your life to by making the ultimate sacrifice in a display of unselfishness, shouldn't he get a reprieve? I mean the guy, despite his obvious shortcomings, lack of foresight and bargaining with the devil, he did it because he believe Anne was pregnant. He was weak. In spite of it all, he still laid down his life to save the worthless souls of Salem. Doesn't he get a pass.
