It was no Cabin in the Woods
Cabin knew what it was, and was proud and loud about it. Extraterrestrial didn't know WHAT it was. A comedy? a horror? A skit? I think it could have been much better if it had just found its own identity.

shareIt wasn't trying to be "cabin" so that's your problem for creating pointless comparisons.

I don't think it's a pointless comparison at all. A bunch of kids, go to a cabin, in the woods, scary stuff happens, people die, twists, turns, science fiction, horror... Really?
I agree with the op. Cabin pulled off crossing horror with comedy and it was done in such a way that I felt at the very least entertained throughout.
Extraterrestrial on the hand, felt like it had no real direction. When it was supposed to be scary, the characters were so over the top/hysterical, I felt distracted from what I'm supposed to be scared of. When the movie is supposed to be funny (was it ever supposed to be?) I thought it just came off as awkward. The huge reveal ending? It could of been good, but I felt like they were trying too hard to make the story "epic". In the right hands, I think this movie could have been great. Unfortunately, it just fell way flat for me.
