What kind of a message is the beginning of this film sending?

Latina refugees cry so hard that mother nature gives them a town built out of nothing, without labor or sacrifice or hard work put in by ancestors. A situation where male labor that would've been necessary to construct the entire foundation of their civilization is just magically manifest with zero effort, where the primarily female families can live with the town magically providing them with whatever they want, whenever they want it.

Sounds like a modern leftist interpretation of the world and a mirror into their innermost thoughts about how civilizations arise and the lack of value they have for the sacrifice and hard work of our forefathers.

This is a musical fantasy film. Were you this upset over Cinderella when the fairy-godmother whipped up a carriage and horses without a man to labor over them?

reply

Probably not, since the people who complain about "leftist interpretations " generally like movies from the '50s.
It is true though that there really is no difference between "Cinderella" and "Encanto" when it comes to magic.
A character is helped through her darkest moment by a supernatural intervention.
It is definately not a political statement against men's importance in the world or any such rubbish.

I don’t think that’s the message, but it does leave wondering how the magic works.
