Do You Think Kubo Will Beat Zootopia for the Oscar?
Thoughts?
LIVE.LAUGH.LOVE
Maybe or Maybe not? I've haven't seen Kubo myself but I've been hearing lots of good things about it. Zootopia is probably my favorite film I saw this year.
shareRegardless of what anyone thinks should win, one of Zootopia, Finding Dory, or Moana will win since having the Disney or Pixar name is usually enough to win. Which one of those will win is difficult, the Academy is weird sometimes.

I prefer Kubo but the Oscar is more likely going to go to either this, Finding Dory, or Moana, seeing as Disney usually wins that award.
shareI keep hearing Finding Dory and I'm goinng to say right up front it has about zero chance of winning!
It's not won a single credible award yet.
The Annie Awards shunned it.
It wasn't praised by critics by any means.
It's a sequel.
The "it's going to win, by default because it's Pixar" has been well over played.
77 Metacritic
94% on RT
Whilst it wasn't beloved you can't ignore those numbers, Dory was very much liked by critics
It's a given fact, the Academy Doesn't care a whole lot about what Critics think! If that was the case (and I wish it was) Zootopia would be the front runner for every Oscar it qualifies for including Best Picture as it was the #1 film on Rotten Tomatoes!
shareUnlikely. Zootopia is a far more popular movie.
shareI wish it worked that way. The "electoral college for movies" denied 'The LEGO Movie' of its Oscar a couple years back.

No, the brick headed Academy voters denied The Tale of the Princess Kaguya of it's Oscar. The people behind the nomination process chose quite wisely as far as the nominations went.

I'm not even going to get into either of those. I'm just saying that the popular vote, which I'm likening to year-end gross, shows 'The LEGO Movie' kicking the butt of the Oscar winner 'Big Hero 6'. And if year-end gross is any indication then both movies out-did 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya'.
Year-end gross is a bit unfair to that movie though due to the fewer number of screens it appeared on and it not being based on an existing property of some popularity*.
*Not one that I'm aware of without looking it up, so if there is one you are more than welcome to correct me.

I agree. It will be either Zootopia or Finding Dory. Most people I know have never even heard of Kubo which says a lot about the success of that movie.

I like Zootopia. I have not seen Kubo. But after seeing Moana, Zootopia and Finding Dory It will appear to be between Moana and Zootopia. Hollywood will nominate the film that sprouts their liberal agenda. So chance it will be Zootopia (unless they come to the conclusion it accidently ended up giving a libertarian and conservation message instead). There is a debate on whether Zootopia's message should be considered liberal or not. I do hope Zootopia's popularity will have them to decide to finish and release the shock collared original version.
shareNo, they will vote for the movie that has the most name recognition. They'll ask their kids which movie they want to see. Seriously, the judges don't even have to watch the animations in order to judge the category. These awards are a sham.
shareGonna have to agree with you there. I never paid any attention to how the voting was done or who was doing it until I found out that not only didn't 'The LEGO Movie' win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year at the 2015 Oscars it wasn't even nominated. I mean, sheeyit! It should have at least been nominated. I won't knock 'Big Hero 6'. It was good, but I don't think it deserved the Oscar.
It was my opinion that 'The LEGO Movie' should have won so I can't be mad over that, but not being nominated is no less than a crime in my book. If you can't believe in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just who can you believe in?

Well the first year out the snubbed Waking Life and then snubbed A Scanner Darkly so I realize this award is the best "kiddie" picture award.
For my money is Kubo had the best animation this year. And most original too. Moana looks like every other Disney princess film.
It took until Anomalisa this year for the academy to recognize adult animation.
shareKubo is perfect but I'm between Zootopia and Moana. I think I would give the edge to Moana because the animation is slightly better and it has great music. Although I thought Zootopia did a great job focusing on some important social themes, and both movies had great characters.
shareNo.
