VERY good... Why was this film so ignored?
Such a great film. Thoroughly enjoyed it :)
Some people are disappointed by the lack of period-specific music in this film but I really like the way the lack of 80's music added to the film's timelessness. The way it was shot reminded me a lot of old gangster flicks and especially of The Godfather, and the issues in the movie are still faced today in business, so I thought the timeless feel was perfect. In fact I probably wouldn't have liked it as much if it came off as an 80's movie.
The acting was superb. I saw Oscar Isaac in "Drive" multiple times and sat through this entire movie not realizing AT ALL that it was the same guy. He looks, speaks and moves so differently and does both characters with such ease that you'd assume each one was very close to his real looks/personality.
No clue why it got passed up for awards or was so ignored by audiences, but it's good in a way because people who see it won't forget it and it will be remembered fondly as a gem of a movie, filmed and acted superbly in an era of movies that care more about glitz, glamour and special effects than tone, themes and verisimilitude.
Solid A-.
