2001 homicide rates did not include 9/11, otherwise that would have been considered more deadly.
I believe so, though 1981 might have been the most dangerous year in NY yet by the time the story takes place. Anyways, here's an article another user on this board posted which does point out that the amount of homicides peaked in 1990.
