A masterpiece
The story, the acting, the photography. Great movie.
What a lovely day
Truth my friend, pure truth. I didn't care much for the new Mad Max though, but yes, it is a lovely day.
A Most Violent Year 8.5/10
Mad Max:Fury Road 6.5/10

Thought it was one of the best movies of the year myself. Surprised me considering the hate its getting here..... I went in kind of apprehensive. I must of had it on my watch-list for two months on Netflix before I eventually got around to watching it. Also have to disagree with you on Mad Max, best action flick I've seen in the past few years but its more of a theatre experience, pretty light on story.
I saw both of these films in the theater actually. I still wasn't very impressed with Mad Max. Sure, it looked great but really, what a bore it was for the most part. I can't get into these all flash and no substance films. If I want that kind of a film, I may as well go watch a superhero flick and turn off my brain. The first two Mad Max films are far superior to the last two in my view. I didn't totally hate the film though obviously, I did say I gave it 6.5/10. So it wasn't all bad, but to me it doesn't live up to the original films. It needed more for me to really enjoy it.
I think one of the reasons A Most Violent Year is getting so much hate here is simply because of the title and the audiences expectations. Many people saw this film expecting a violent mob flick, and were taken by surprise that it was a more thought provoking and methodical film. Just being in a frame of mind to watch a mostly mindless action flick and then getting this slow psychological boiler is enough to throw many off of it. I think many people could have enjoyed this film a lot more if they were not expecting something else so much. Expectations are the main factor regarding disappointments, and this also rings true for me with Mad Max of course. I loved the originals, I expected more from the new one. Perhaps without those originals to hold this new film up to, I would have enjoyed it more.

Thank you. yes, "A Most Violent Year" is a great film; subtle, poetic and gorgeously filmed. Too bad they don't make too many films like this anymore. Audiences for these films seem to be dying out.
