Oscar Issac was channeling Al Pacino's Don Corleone performance
A Most Violent Year made me think Oscar Issac was channeling Al Pacino's Don Corleone performance but with an oil truck company.

prepare for big disapointment
shareIt wasn't a big disappointment to me. I was engaged, because I never knew what Oscar would do. Would he take the his wife's money or not? Would he get a gun for protection? He was very cool, but I think Jessica Chastain was the one who showed balls.
The one thing we have to remember, these are businessmen. They don't carry guns and go around killing and threatening people. They just want to make money and go home at night.
prepare for big disapointment
shareWhy, are you about to perform coitus?
shareThat is what your wife is thinking about you as well. You need to stop going to anything that has content or substance. Jurassic Park is where you should spend the rest of your movie going life. As a dinosaur.
shareWhy disappointed? Am I gonna be forced to look at you naked? Seriously, I loved this film the first time around, and enjoyed it more on the second viewing. Why? Because it is just so damn well-made. Most anyone who has a basic understanding of the art/craft of film making will undoubtedly appreciate "A Most Violent Year," even if they don't enjoy the subject matter. This movie is beautiful in so many ways..
"IMdB; where 14 year olds can act like jaded 40 year old critics...'
Actually... that's one of the reasons I enjoyed the film so much. This is a well made film. The story is well constructed, and the acting is of a high standard. God forbid that a new film should remind us of an old classic!
Given the low standard of Oscar nominated films this year... a good 'yarn' is more than welcome here.
I think you mean Michael Corleone ;)
Don Vito Corleone was played by Marlon Brando.
Don just means leader or boss, Don wasn't him name :P Nice try though
They call him the matador; He settles all the scores; He kills in plain sight; With a blade and a smile
When Michael became the head of the family, he became Don Michael Corleone.
shareHonestly his performance reminded me of Andy Garcia's Vincent Mancini

It's clearly an influence, particularly in certain scenes; the quiet, pensive approach, combining anger and frustration with empathy. The look on his face in that final big scene is perfect! An understated and fine performance from a fantastic actor.
shareThis was my 1st time seeing Oscar in a movie. I'm hooked. I looked up his bio -- he's Latino! No wonder he spoke flawless Spanish.
I loved that scene where he walks through the apartment looking for Julian. Whoever directed this needs a lot of credit.
You're absolutely right about that. I've seen Oscar in 4 or 5 movies now and he hasn't given a disappointing performance yet. You'll need to catch him in Ex Machina currently playing at the theater. He's fantastic in that as well and the movie is top notch.
