5.8
LOL at everyone who said this was fantastic and made The Shallows look like a joke.
Let me guess "The ratings don't matter!" blah, blah.
Yeah, that is just something people with poor taste tell themselves. ;-)

A 5.8 is to be expected from movies that don't follow the happy Hollywood endings.
Open Water and The Reef have similar ratings and are far superior to The Shallows.
But again.. those have no happy, all is well, endings.

No, you're not wrong, you're just an a$$hole!
Hard to believe, but a 5.8 puts this in the upper echelon of shark thrillers! That's right above Jaws 2 and Open Water's 5.7 ratings and ties it with The Reef and Deep Blue Sea. The only ones I can think of that are higher are Jaws and The Shallows at 8.0 and 6.8, respectively. This genre (and killer animal films in general) is not known for being highly rated.
shareAgree both the movies you mentioned are far superior to In The Deep, not sure why it's getting so much love!.

The Reef is not far superior to The Shallows.
shareOn the boards of these particular shark films (The Shallows, Open Water, The Reef, In the Deep), there's so much bashing of one or more of these films to praise another or vice versa. I'm ecstatic about that, really. I'm a fan of all these movies, and I think it's just fun to see that we can actually debate the merits of multiple films in this genre now instead of lamenting that the only good shark movies were the first two Jaws films.
shareOP is mindless like the majority. If ratings are what secure you, you have no real opinion. So many great movies with low raitngs, and vice versa.
I'm sure people who worked on the Shallows are doings double damage control via 'word of mouth' and internet to bury this one. They had the budget but THIS one had the story.

I liked In the Deep a lot, but let's be realistic, there's no damage control necessary for The Shallows. That film is a critical and box office success. It's made quadruple its budget worldwide and still has over 20 countries to be released in.
In the Deep, on the other hand, seems to have been screwed over by its own distributors, initially set by the Weinstein Brothers for VOD release, then Freestyle Distributing taking over and setting it for theatrical release, but after DVD copies were already shipped out, and now it's available for VOD on Amazon Instant Video! What a mess of a release.
Depends on what you deem success, I think In The Deep will live out in turns of plot and sheer suspense. Cult classic material.

Actually ratings mean nothing to me.
I just made this post to annoy the people who stated this film was so amazing.
This one may of had a better story but it was poorly executed.
this one had a stupid story.
shareOP is a moron and a very silly troll. He/She thinks CGI is what makes a movie good. lol when are you going to wake up kid?
shareI knew you would reply lol. Its not just the CGI, the acting n writing were very poor too. Nice try though..... Kid.
sharei actually quite liked this as well, i wont say its better than the Shallows as they were both different and had their positives and negatives.
I liked the suspense and claustrophoebic/trapped feeling that in the deep gave you with its background sound effects and dark lighting. sharks i did not think were too bad, the same for the Shallows, both pretty decent effects especially due to budget limitations. i have seen far worse in far bigger budget films.
Actresses were ok, nothing special but did not ruin it when you got beyond the opening scenes when they were partying.
both enjoyable
