Why is there always THAT character

This was such a shame that not only was it moore as a lead, who despite having her fans I've never been impressed with any of her acting, but also that the writers went with the "one strong, one weak" character trope. It is such a tiring and played out dynamic.

Despite me despising the Lisa character, I enjoyed the movie enough to watch it through. It held my interest and even managed to sustain a tense mood. I just don't understand why.....why?!?!?! Do writers ALWAYS have to write a character as someone who does EVERYTHING in their power to NOT prevail under their circumstances in these types of films. You have a limited supply of O2, so what do you do? Oh, that's right, freak out non-stop and when you're not freaking out you're crying and talking about how you're going to die. Having gotten that rant out of my system, I get that you can't have a cast of completely stable/strong characters, but come on, they could tone it down after the initial (and to be expected) act I freak out. I'm not sure if it was the script or Moore taking it upon herself to be a never ending supply of lines and exclamations that had me rooting for the sharks on occasion. This movie had incredible potential(despite going against real life shark behaviour, but hey, what shark movie doesn't) I just couldn't get past the atrocious logic(or constant butter fingers)shown by the two leads to call this a "good" movie...more mediocre?

I totally get what you're saying, but I think, for me at least, it wouldn't have been as realistic for them both to be calm in that scenario. I mean, sitting on a rock is one thing, but now you're deep underwater, with not a lot of oxygen, and sharks above you...I would be Mandy's character, trust me, lol, only I don't feel like I would've been able to bounce back. I'd probably hyperventilate/have a panic attack and die, which is exactly why I wouldn't be caught in that cage in the first place.

But I do understand what you mean. It's like when they always have the a**hole character in the found footage horror movies. The one has HAS to make idiotic jokes, *The Gallows*, and say the DUMBEST things that aren't funny AT ALL *The Gallows*, and is so annoying to the point that you can't wait for them to die so they will no longer be present in the movie *The Gallows*....seriously, if you haven't seen The Gallows, don't waste your time.

Also, one wasn't experienced. I remember when I was doing my open water certification, I was doing my dive in a quarry in May in the UK... Got severe cramp all over my body.. Legs, feet, toes, fingers, stomach... Had to be rescued out as I couldn't move as I had 'locked up'. I kept calm but I can no longer dive as I cannot stop the cramps when I hit deeper than 10m.

Point is, there's different levels of fear and can understand why they would freak out so much; it would be pretty much pitch black down there... Cold... No way up without certain risk. The mind questions what is right... My wife would panic like the movie whilst I wouldn't.

Was a good movie with a great atmosphere. The Shallows was more marketable but this was good in it's own right.

Claire Holt's character was highly stereotypical as well. The so-called "strong one" is really the type of sleazy woman that takes her friend out to bars and they hook up with random skeevy guys (who prey on tourists in such a location) as a solution to dealing with your personal problems.
