AK is known for endings where everything turns to *beep* i saw the end coming. the problem was not the horrible fate of the girl, the problem was the way it ended, abruptly. also i feel acting by Rahul Bhat and Siddhant Kapoor was not at par. And what was with the voice over for Siddhant Kapoor by Rajkumar Rao, couldn't they get another actor if they didn't like the voice?
average movie at best, nothing near Gulaal or GOW.
I have always found the ending of AK's movies too slow. As if he has too much to tell but he is unable to decide what to cut. Gulaal was very abrupt and long at the end. Same with Gangs of Wasseypur (remember that Sultan's murder scene in a movie where everyone does immediately). I personally found that this movie's ending, for the first time, was tight. He didn't sacrifice the audience's attention in telling us where did the wife go, where did the gf go, where did Rahul end up finally etc.
Rewatchability wise it might not be as good as Gulaal or GOW because the movie is too dark. It is a too... ugly for our taste to try it again. But cinema wise it is quite good and IMHO AK's best execution so far.
Gulaal was a castle of sand, after a very Important character died (Ransa), everything just kept collapsing slowly and the end gave a closure when Dilip finally exlplodes into madness goes and kills Duggi Bana, and gets himself killed in the process. he finally stands up for himself.
but the best thing about Gulaal is the Music. it was a lyrical revolution with tight background score.
the music of Gulaal was just Superb, which UGLY lacked in My Humble Opinion.
Same with GOW, gave closure (Ramadhir Singh died in the Craziest manner possible and i loved it) and great soundtracks.
now coming to ugly the only soundtrack which had an Impact was "Money", with Siddhant dancing in his undies and Ronit Roy Pointing a gun at him, while Ronit is already wounded by a gunshot, then he collapses, the whole scenario was awesome i agree. but other than that no good soundtracks and no closure at all, In my Opinion.
Rewatchability is automatic, Because i feel like i owe it to Directors like AK. Although UGLY is not his best work IMHO.
that first scene with jadhav was the best thing i've seen in any movie in a long time.
