Shoumik is the real hero of the story
I saw this movie a few days back and it’s one of the best Indian movies I’ve seen. Although there are no likable characters, I feel that somehow the character of Shoumik deserved to be called a hero (of shorts).
The only positive thing about the whole story is that the police found 8 disappeared girls (while trying to find Kali). This was achieved by the relentless efforts of Shoumik Bose. He pulled as many strings as possible. Made deals with thugs etc. He also covered many possibilities (hidden by father, kidnaping for ransom, sex trade etc.).
Why did he fail? –
1. Chaitanya led the investigation astray when he made the ransom call.
2. It was proven that he made the call and he admitted. Because of this, his credibility as a witness was zero. Chaitanya was the only witness to point at the masks salesman as a potential suspect. So Bose had to disregard that line of investigation.
3. Then the girl’s father, his friend and even his girlfriend totally screwed up the investigation by the ransom game.
Some comments here says that he was playing a game with Rahul but I don’t think this was the case. He felt guilty of the way he treated the girl (memories of him tearing up her photos with father while he was in a car) and wanted to find her. If he was playing a game, he would never have asked Rahul’s help with Chaitanya (He was too proud for something like this).
Anyway, he did not give up till the very end. But both the biological parents ran away.
Mother – Not interested in finding the girl. Became a thief and stole from her own father. When she discovered her friend has betrayed her, she shot the ONLY PERSON who had the capacity to find Kali (if she’s alive) in anger. Then ran away.
Father – Never let go of the faith he had on his so-called friend (who had an affair with his wife), did not co-operate with police, insisted that Bose had Kali, became a thief and finally a murderer. Ran away.
In the end, Bose was the only person who was with Kali’s body. His efforts were futile but he was there.
