Completely agreed! The fake Russian accent was so annoying, why not to speak in a proper language? If you speak in English then speak it properly for f. sake.
Fake accents really spoil movies. Why are the filmakers still doing it? It's silly.
Adds a bit of etho-regional flavor, is all. Get over it.
shareif they did not use accents to reflect the locale then people here would complaint about THAT. (“they lacked talent so much yhey didn’t even TRY accents!” etc)
shareI agree that there will be people who will complain about something. But in HBO's Chernobyl they don’t speak with a Russian accent or in Russian at all and this is a great show.
shareI think that worked because in Chernobyl it's all Russians. While in this movie there are Americans too. So when they meet it would be a little bit jarring if both Russians and Americans speak in American English (no accent.)
shareBecause it’s been a cinema thing since, well, basically always. And so those on movie boards can continue to complain about it, I suppose.
