So, Basically Francis Ha part 2?!

So, basically Francis Ha part 2?!

That is good enough reason for me to avoid this film then.

It dabbles in vaguely similar terrain, but it's nothing like Frances Ha.

I think people that found that annoying would find this even more so

I haven't seen 'Frances Ha', but I liked this film, would I like Frances Ha? If it it helps after ten minutes of GG's character in this I thought "God, she's the worst....." (the character, not GG)

reply

Ezra, I don't think you will enjoy the character of Frances! But I think you might like the movie itself.

No, not at all. This is very different from Frances Ha. It's very good though.

I actually preferred it to Frances Ha. I thought there was a better veriety of characters, and I definetly laughed more in it too

It had a lot more direction than Frances Ha!

I felt that a lot of the social commentary that Noah was making in FH were more digestible in a more straight forward comedy format.

The angst, aimless and post graduate meandering were still present but Mistress America had a welcome departure from a Woody Allen film. Instead of being an awkward character study there were actual well rounded jokes and relevant, self aware statements on the concept of a "quarter life crisis"

my two pence anyways...

You could look at it like that since both films portray women trying to find themselves. Gerwig's character in Frances Ha is young and insecure and very awkward. Frances may be slightly more endearing due to her awkwardness than Brooke in Mistress America, who's more polished and overly confident.

I found Mistress America to be a better film. I liked the relationship between Brooke and Tracy, the dialogue, and the focus on writing and being creative.

I love Greta Gerwig, but I thought Lola Kirke really shone in this film. I'd like to see her in more films.

"Frances Ha" and "Mistress America" are both good films, although I think "Frances Ha" is the better film. Greta Gerwig is delightful in both.
