this movie HAS to be a joke.

It's so bad, I just can't take any of it seriously. Is Baumbach mocking people in their 20's? That whole 10 questions *beep* towards the end of the movie... WTF was that? Mocking political correctness? Mocking feminism? None of the characters were believable. The dialogue was ridiculous. Poorly acted all around. I usually love throwback 80's music but it didn't fit with the movie at all. Somebody help me out.

I think that whole Connecticut sequence was meant to be read as a straight up farce.

Yes, it was not realism, and when you venture from realism, you are flirting with absurdity. And sometimes comedy. The whole ten questions thing is totally surprising, and weird, and I think funny. But I can see how some people will feel it is simply weird. For me, the film is entertaining without being as satisfying as Frances Ha, which was clearly more tethered to reality.

This film features a main character who, ultimately, is not even fooling herself. She already knows that her life is unsustainable. That is her sadness, but maybe that's how it works. We only think that these people are fooling themselves. In reality, they are not even doing that.
