Please explain why Kickstar V.M was OK and Zach Braff’smovie not ok
I haven’t watched Veronica Mars – not my thing – nor Zach Braff’s Wish I was here. The only thing I now about these movies is that both were source funded via KickStarter. And I also read that Braff got a lot of criticism for using that platform to fund his movie. But that’s exactly the same way V.M got funded. So why VM is ok and Zach Braff’s movie is not ok.
By ok and not ok I DO NOT mean quality, reception or box office. By ok and not ok I simply mean that VM didn’t get criticism for being funded via Kickstart and WIWH did.

Probably because the fans of VM had campaigned for the studio to make a VM movie for years, and the studios said no. So Rob Thomas decided to start a fundraiser to show that there was genuine interest in a VM film.

Zach Braff simply said "The studios passed on my film that no one asked me to make anyway. Give me your money (even though I have more than enough to finance it myself) and I'll make it for you to watch!"

Does that help answer your question? FYI VM did get criticized for using Kickstarter, just not to the same extent.

Nobody asked most of the people on Kickstarter to make they projects. Why single out Braff?

As noted above...

The studios passed on his movie in the first place and despite Zach lying to the fans saying he couldn't fund it, he could. Zach new it was a flop and didn't want to take the loss.

Almost every movie is a flop. Hollywood makes money on a couple dozen hits a year and the rest are tax write offs. No film maker should ever fund his/her own film unless it's insanely low budget and there's no other way for it to get made.

Both of your criteria fit the bill for "Wish I Was Here".

It was low budget, and the studios passed.

reply

Obviously not the second if he was able to crowdfund the film. Duh.

And Wish I Was Here isn't "insanely low budget." I'm talking Microbudget IE less than $100,000

Just FYI the title of a film is italicized not quoted.

He crowdfunded, BECAUSE the studios passed.

Considering that this was his follow-up to "Garden State", an incredibly successful low budget movie, it should have been a huge sign that the studios did not want to back it.

I understood what you were saying. I was addressing THIS directly:

Zach Braff simply said "The studios passed on my film that no one asked me to make anyway. Give me your money (even though I have more than enough to finance it myself) and I'll make it for you to watch!"

Because no one wanted "Wish I Was Here". The script was bad, the studios passed.

So he had to trick people into funding it for him by making statements like "Oh if you want to see my new movie... I need money from you." When again, he had the money already.

This should have been the last post in this thread. It answers everything perfectly. 

rob zombie has even more money than Zach and he also is doing crowdfunding for his new movie...

nowhere near the same hate. and yeah, zombie is much much more wealthy.

Veronica Mars had a set fan base that had wanted something new for years. They were funding something they trusted and wanted. Other than being a fan of Braff, I don't know why people would give money to get a film made that they know nothing about. But he asked people gave and he made a movie. It was their choice.
