Really happy with the ending because

They made it.

Be honest what found footage movie ends on a good note or the main cast making it? I cant think of one.

Evil wins or everyone dies is the new movie Cliche.

You didn't get it. They most likely arrived in hell.

You didn't get it.

Each character made their own hell.

I agree with you OP, at least those who "rectify".

Agreed. There were a lot of aspects of this movie that set it apart from the usual direct-to-Sunday-morning-cable "horror" flick, and the ending is just one.

They did not end up in hell. The made it out. They went through hell or so to speak parts of their own hell yet through together. They didn't die. Some made it out because Scarlett and George figured out what and how to get out. Related to Dante I believe. I will say this there is a lot of references in this movie to real things and real people.

I couldn't agree more. Plus the ending wasn't empty or playing into that now-old tired trope "it's entirely up to the viewer's own interpretation."

I wish all newer horror films could return to being original as well as nicely filmed and acted like this one was. A refreshing break for sure!

reply

Yep, I was thinking they would die, got proved wrong, then though well just main guy and girl will make it, not 3rd wheel, but then he made it too, was happy to see that.

got blunt?

reply

Completely agree. I had many issues with this film but was very pleasantly surprised they made it out at the end. As you say, it's practically a horror movie cliche now that everybody dies.

Why do so many film buffs/readers have such trouble with understanding movies/stories? 99.99% of the time there is nothing to understand that isn't shown to you. They clearly escaped hell.
