Did anyone else want to smack Scarlett? (Spoiler)

Scarlett was one of those characters you just want to take into a room and smack in the head repeatedly. What an annoying person - how many people died because of her idiocy!? At least George survived, especially since he told her about a hundred times he didn't want to go down in the catacombs.

Aside from her, the movie was pretty good, and I'll probably watch it again to pick up on some things I might have missed the first time around.

Man, she was annoying.

Nothing like as much as I wanted to smack Heather in "The Blair Witch Project."

At least that's better than other dumb ass people who are so inept at understanding the concept of a movie that they drove Heather Donahue out of acting with their virulent and vulgar animosity towards her as a person. That makes me want to smack each and every one of them.

I hate Cersei on Game of Thrones and want nothing more than for her to get hers times two. But I love Lena Headey to pieces. Sadly, a large portion of the US movie fan base simply can't marshal the mental might and emotional control to pull a feat like that off. So I am forced to assume pigeon intelligence, since the next step is not being able to see and walk at the same time.

reply

No, she really wasn't. She was just driven - nay headstrong. They all made mistakes. That's why they were in so much trouble down there. Because they had to atone for them.

reply

Yeah, I wanted to smack her arse while I went 'potholing'...

George had no one to blame but himself. You knew from the first time he said he wasn't going that he couldn't really say no to Scarlett.

reply

But George had no choice but to go -- if he didn't, he would have been arrested by the cop who tried to stop them from entering the catacombs. In a frenzy, he was pretty much forced inside due to the chaos.

I think that anyone that thought that she was "annoying" or wished that she had died just hates female characters in films. She was demanding, single minded, often selfish -all just different aspects of some human beings. Whenever we see any unpleasant character traits in a woman, people label that character as "annoying." That type of sexist attitude is boring and played out.

reply

Nnnnnno.

As a female, I thought she was annoying. As a female archaeologist, I knew from the first scene of her talking that she would be someone I wouldn't want to work with, and that thought continued throughout the movie. Recognizing someone has an annoying personality is in no way sexist. Yes, it is an aspect of being a human being, but it's an annoying one and anyone, male or female, that exudes that personality will be considered as such.

reply

The irony is that you come across as annoying in your post. Your nnnnnno alone is enough to put people off to you.

You're the only one who brought sex or gender into this.

You bet. She had more than a little bit of a psychopathic obsession with whatever it was they were going after.
