Was Elena supposed to die in a car bomb?
Near the beginning, after Elena says goodnight to Hobbs, he realises that he has forgotten to hand her an envelope. He runs after her, and hands her a letter of recommendation which he says contains high praise which she thoroughly deserves. It seems like they're more or less saying goodbye, as she is about to move onto another job.
Hobbs then turns and walks away, and Elena gets into her car ready to turn on the engine.
This scene seemed like a very clear set up for a car bomb which would kill Elena (and injure Hobbs?)
As a general rule, if the camera lingers on a secondary character while they get ready to turn on their car engine, that means it's a bomb. This is doubly likely if a major character is near enough to witness the death, but far enough away to survive it.
Also, as a general rule, if a secondary character starts looking forward to a new life in a new job (or retirement) then they are about to die. This counts double if a major character has a scene saying how "important" they are, and how proud they should be of the job they have done.
So was Elena originally scripted to be another victim of Deckard Shaw?
Or was it always planned that this scene was just supposed to be an excuse for Hobbs to be away from his computer long enough for Deckard Shaw to gain access to it?
