WTF? It's gonna be fun to see how that ties into the rest of the series.
I'm so glad we have another Noah Hawley series to enjoy. I've been suffering withdrawal symptoms since the end of season one of Legion. The man is a genius!
I think the only connection so far was the mistaken identity theme, or two people living at the same address.
At the anniversary party , Stussy said how he and his wife met was he was living int he same apt where she used to live and she still had the key.
Then the whole confusion between Eden Valley and Eden Prairie, and Maurice robbing the wrong house.
I dunno if there will be any other connection. I was trying to think if the real killer (Yuri) of that East Berlin murder was 20 in 1988 then he'd be 42 in 2010. So he might have escaped capture since the east german cops were just going to frame that poor slob who lived in Yuri's old apt. So maybe if we see a 42 year old german character it might be Yuri who came to the uS after the berlin wall fell, or something?
I would love if Yuri shows up.
I'm suspecting the theme of this season is how any random mistake, (all forces outside our control) can have such a strong influence on our fate. Positive and negative. You might meet your future wife, or you might get murdered.
the dark forces of chaos are always at work.
Well okay then. I think you've just put your finger on the central theme of the entire Fargo franchise there.
Jah, Yuri showing up would be classic for sure.
I noticed they gave us two shots of house slippers...we saw them on "Yuri" caked in snow after being dragged to be interrogated. And then got a quick shot of Emmit's when he was leaving for the office and his wife points out he's stilling wearing them. They both appeared to be of a similar make.
I don't know what that means, if it's just a fun and tenuous connection or what, but it stood out to me nonetheless. Maybe the previous stamps were originally from there? Maybe that Varga guy is really "Yuri?" It's hard to say whether it'll have an actual plot line connection or is just a comment on the themes this season will have.
Again, I have no clue how far that indication goes, but seemed kinda off to me to focus on them both times. Maybe the parallels are the sole point *shrugs* But, I agree, Hawley's playful attention to detail makes his stories extra enjoyable. We shall find out!
He seems awfully interested in the concept of stories themselves, as of late, as well. The opening of this talking about not caring about stories so much as truth and seguing into the, "this is a true story," text overlay...and then the monologue Oliver had in the beginning of Ch. 4 of Legion talking about stories teaching us empathy and fear. It gives it a whole meta level to all of this while also making us conscious of just how much the narratives we watch and live ourselves are so important and affecting.
You're welcome, and that's why I love Noah Hawley's work. He is a genius.
The "this is a true story" is of course him messing with us. Btw, did you notice how "This is a true story" morphed into "This is a story", and then into just "Story"?
Yup! Nice, little breakdown there...lovely play off of the Germans last words there. Perhaps a not-so-subtle nod to us that this is all really fiction and we all know it, but go along anyways, showing us stories are a two way street in terms of creator and viewer.
Don't forget Season 2 premiere opened on the set of a Ronald Reagan western. Which was never tied in to the story. It's just fun seeing parallels and tying it in for ourselves. I think they just like to play with us. Maybe the UFO will come back!
I hope there are no more UFOs. Similar to Season 2 of American Horror Story. They were thrown in sort of as a nod to the times and the UFO obsession. Which I get, to a degree. But then, in both cases, neither went anywhere. But, since they're anthologies, even if they never play a part again, we know they still exist in the universe. Which is neat, and I like alien stuff. But, alien or not, I dislike story threads that are touched upon just to be there, and are never really part of or fully explained within the narrative. And in both shows, I don't see how aliens can be fit in as a major thing without it being silly. So I'd rather they just never touch on it at all.
