Annihilation, not worth the $5

I wanted to like it, looked forward to seeing it... It was just so dull and brain dead. They sold this story as a thinking person's alien invasion movie but just like the main character kept saying "I don't know"...

Didn't they think to send in people or robots on theaters? Wouldn't they have been in space suits to make sure they could live beyond the threshold? It would have been a great funny or die story, as they enter the shimmer they choke, die and fall over dead on top of the other dead teams, one foot inside. They cut the aliens waiting to greet them...

Saw it for free (with moviepass) a few days ago. Honestly not even worth the time to see it despite it being free. They clearly didn't hire a science officer for this film. The director was probably like...yeah, i think that makes sense...let's just have them walk in without protectoin...okay

Though the movie and novel are nothing alike the novel explains many of your questions. They did send in robotics at first but nothing was able to transmit anything back. They also tried to send in rabbits with cameras attached to them. This ended up creating a whole lot of problems as they believed after that some of the rabbits that got in also were able to get out and they now had contaminated rabbits running loose. It is discovered later in the book that time moves a lot faster in the shimmer than outside. So the mechanical things they run into all look very old and worn. Anything mechanical begins breaking down very fast. Even the guns they have begin to look very old and worn. It was also never shown in the books that it was aliens. There was no meteor strike like in the movie. Maybe I missed something in the novel but I left the trilogy with more of a alternate dimension crossing with ours than aliens.
