I'm confused :( Leighton Meester/ Carrie Bishop *SPOILERS*

Some SPOILERS ahead for those that haven't watched.

So Carrie Bishop was the "pop star" that was killed right? The whole time I am looking at it thinking "I don't recognise her at all. I recognise everyone else but not her, but the name was familiar. So I looked it up and in the series her character was played by Leighton Meester, that is definitely not her in the movie. I know her character was only in photos and flashbacks etc but still, I thought she was a major part of the movie. If they couldn't get Leighton to play the role, couldn't they just use another character, there were a lot. It really bugs me :( Thoughts?

I know, it bugged me too. They asked Leighton Meester to come back, but she was unavailable. So they recast her too. I mean, although I agree she was a major character in the plot, she didn't actually get a lot of screen time. Plus, she was a very minor character on the show...she was only in like 2 episodes in season 1...they probably thought it didn't really matter that much. But yeah, it kind of bugged me, but it wasn't super distracting I guess.

It would have made so much more sense to take the 2 seconds to change the character rather than recast it. Seeing as the movie was made for VM fans, they should have know that most hardcore VM fans would spot a recast.

reply

leighton was supposed to return but backed out at the last Minute, there was no time to rewrite the script so they recast her

There are two possibilities. Most likely she was busy with other projects, since her page shows at least five things in midst of production. Also, she may have asked for too much salary, even though everyone else was working for scale.

If they were going to use another character it should have been Hannah (Jessie Schram). Yeah, she's on Falling Skies, but just barely these days.

I forgot about Hannah. They should have used her instead. I don't like the actress they chose as Carrie.

Yep, would take Hannah over cheap-Carrie. Heck, Jackie, even, or that Hart Hanson kid. The Carrie "knockoff" really cheapened the movie.

As someone who knows who is supposed to be playing Carrie Bishop, the movie lost some of its authenticity by recasting her -- and a bad recasting at that, because it was like they did everything they could to deliberately make her look as fake as humanly possible. I mean, what the hell?

Hannah makes way more sense. For one, she was actually in a relationship with Logan. Second, I think we have more of an interest in whatever happened to Hannah since she just got shipped off somewhere. I really wasn't that interested in whatever happened to Carrie Bishop.

reply

Except Logan really liked Hannah - her dying would have him reacting in a totally different way that would not be in line with the story of this movie.

I hope your apple pie is freakin' WORTH IT!!!

On second thought, I think they should have done whatever it took to persuade Leighton to appear in the movie. Then we might have actually heard some decent music from Bonnie DeVille.

I had no idea she could sing. She definitely would have been better. I have to agree with everyone else that I hated the recasting. I get that the person they used actually did sing those songs, but I didn't like the songs or her. I know fame changes people or whatever, but it was hard to see the Carrie Bishop we knew going that way.

Go with your heart, buddy. Our brains only screw things up...

I think she was in Boston (shooting a prior commitment) at the time they needed to shot her scenes. I think they thought it might still work out like just a couple weeks before shooting, or at the least not too much ahead of time.

reply

You do know the person that played Bonnie deville was actually a singer

reply

The point is there is no reason the character had to be Carrie Bishop. It could have been a new character.

reply

The Susan Knight back story would not have worked without Carrie, and that was the whole point of the murder. Carrie was willing to lie about swarmy teacher to help Susan, it is understandable she'd crack under the guilt of Susan's death. The rest were more concerned with their futures.

If they worried that much about continuity, James Jordan would not have been double cast.

reply

Jessie would have been a good character for people who have wondered what happened to her, and liked the character. They would have of course needed to change the plot entirely. I can't see Jessie being a drug addicted pop star. I think her being killed would have been more devastating to fans. I also think that a big issue would be peoples reactions to Logan and Veronica hooking up so quickly after Jessie were killed though. Jessie was such a sweet character that I think most people would have problems with Logan moving on so quickly after her being murdered, even if it was for Veronica.
