It's worth following but it's only had one short season so it's early days. I certainly look forward to seeing more of it.

Eeek!!! I'm getting dressed.

great!

This was my favorite new show last year. Did you end up watching it? I think it's really aimed toward a very specific demographic. Which is me. LOL

Jen, you are funny. 

Unfortunately, I STILL haven't seen it yet.

Do you know if it's on Netflix, yet?

Thanks, I try. 😝
It's on a site called sidereel but I have no idea how that works. Don't know about Netflix because I don't have it. :( Sorry I can't be more helpful.

You are welcome, Jen, the earthling.

Don't know who your cable provider is but most of the season is on demand

reply

I kept seeing promos for the new season on the OnDemand channel. I decided to give it a try, S1 is available free now on Comcast/Xfinity. It's an easy and enjoyable watch. I've been waiting for something else good to watch since Silicon Valley ended.

I think so, these ladies wrote Best Friends & it was hilarious too but much more serious & I think they were burned by the reception & have made this mainly surface & silly. I have loved Lennon since she was on Accidentily on Purpose

reply

Excellent..the only comedy on cable thst is funny

reply

I agree that it's a great show, but to say it's the only comedy on cable that's funny is completely false. Silicon Valley is one of the best comedies in years.

I'm not all the way through the first season (and may not go back to it), but, for me, it's just mediocre. One thing that bugs me is the lifting of bits from other shows.

Two adults in a child's backyard playhouse?* Done on Modern Family, with Cam and the James Marsden squatter; a really funny scene. *Not sure why Lennon Parham has a child's playhouse in her backyard since she's pregnant with her first baby.

Two adults accidentally turn on a high-tech shower while snooping in a friend's house and can't turn it off. Done on The Mindy Project when Mindy accidentally turns on Mark Duplass's character's shower.

I can appreciate Jessica St. Clair's talent, but to me, she seems to be stereotyped; she always plays overbearing (Veep, Bridesmaids). Her character irks me.

I keep reading good things about the show, maybe it's just not for me.

reply

seems sensible,

thanks, for your feedback.

reply

Lennon's house was her parents house, the house she grew up in, so I suppose the playhouse was hers when she was young. Even if it wasn't I don't find it that strange to buy a house that already had a playhouse.

reply

No its a silly show.

reply

mystmass,

Silly shows are entertaining, though! 

^...agreed.

It seems like so many shows get judged by whether they produce instantly meme-worthy bits like Seinfeld or How I Met Your Mother but there is lots of room for shows like Playing House that are really just sweetly entertaining and different enough to keep my interest.

Sure- they aren't re-inventing TV comedy here. I don't get why some people feel it necessary to express superlative hate for this or any similar effort though. It's not like they're boiling live bunnies with swastikas painted over the faces or anything. It's a nice odd little half hour show.

I've seen all 18 episodes to date and enjoyed them all. I don't care for the guy who played Rabbi Dan at all because he seems to always play the same passive aggressively stooopid goofball types (remember Worst Week, Anyone?) but he went away after a few episodes.

I like that the show is strongly episodic yet carries on a few arcing plot issues. I hope it does well enough to stay on the schedule.

vinsane,

I know what you mean. Some people criticize every aspect of a tv show expecting it to be Academy-Award winning! LOL

Some shows are great just because they're funny and allow you to escape reality for a few minutes; while others are just awful & should be cancelled.
